I think sometimes they do this in the middle of a barbed wire fence to give it some more rigidity, although usually I see wood rather than steel.

Nice looking results! I'm curious why you didn't use your mag drill with a cutting attachment to cut the saddles? I built a firewood rack with 2 3/8" pipe and I now have great admiration for those who can make nice looking saddle welds on pipe. It was the first time I had ever tried to do it and it was a lot harder than I expected.

Get you and emily some electronic hearing protection, its well worth the money over plugs or dead muffs. You don't need anything like a 300$ set of Sordins (I do lol, been wearing them in the shop for 2 years everyday for the entire day and no problems) but anything that has external microphones and internal speakers. Bedtime tinnitus no more. There are plugs that do a similar job but plugs are nasty.
