Great tutorial Shane. I've used Oster clippers for the past 30+ years and love'um. Thanks for the reminder on safety and sani, which tends to get diluted when one's in a rush; but better safe than sorry. Thank you for your time and instruction on this.

The closer you are to skin the more blending room you need. If you think about the concept you can really smush the blend between a 1 1/2 and a 3 1/2 but you cant smush the 1.5 to skin or it looks like a bowl from a distance.... so the tighter blade of the guideline needs to be bigger and as the blades get longer they can be thinner guidelines. I struggled with this for years until I started stretching the first guideline with the one blade. That cut my time down by 15 to 20 minutes per cut

I've cut hair almost 40 years now. I've always done my fades similar to you despite seeing others put a line in and then blend it. I find your method much better. Much easier to blend if you don't create a hard line to begin with. Well done sir

This video.. WAS PHENOMENAL!! I’m 30, been cutting my hair since I was like 15. I’m in the military so it’s super easy. Weekly cut using my 5 Stars and the T Outliners. I’d say I get it nearly perfect EVERYTIME! Just like you said, you don’t get a cut like that overnight! Sometimes I find days I cut better than others so I just make a note on what I did differently. Granted, I don’t have much equipment but I might apply pressure differently or do something first that nets a better result! Again, awesome video man, love to see it 💪🏽

You’re right. I do skin fades all day on a military base. I average 3.75 cuts per hour. Quick, crisp, clean. I can absolutely take my time and take longer, but I can also turn and burn. Once you master your order of operation, it’s like riding a bike.

I use a similar method..I make my stripe with the 1 blade as big as I can. Like an inch an a 1/4 wide. That makes the skin line fading easier. I fade down from the top with detachable down from a 3 1/2 or 2 to 1a.... So fade down to 1a and use guide lines for skin and 1 blade

Thank you for posting Ive been cutting my own hair since 1990 i live in Australia and have only had Wahl clippers. I have attempted fades but as i never grow my hair longer than number 4 on top i am limited with experimentation I cut my brothers hair and thats about it for customers but am interested in pursuing barbering. I just bought Oster clippers from the states and had to purchase a 120v to 240 v step down to work them over here and was unaware of the blade sizes (poor research). I love the feel and closeness of cut without the guard. Love the Oster 76.

hahaha lol the reason you noticed that ceiling fan was bc the videotaping was horrible ...when making a video it is very important to have someone with a steady hand or tripod videotaping as well as lighting ... I was very interested in what the barber was saying but kept getting off track bc I am pretty good at both and in one hand I wanted to watch him do the haircut so I can brush up my skills on clippers and on the other hand I did videography as well so I am sorry but it drove me nuts! you want to videotape the subject as close as possible standing further back not crowding the guy speaking and you can get same results just zooming it in and keeping it where you can see both we don't care about the whole shop just what he's talking about and seeing closeups of what he is doing.@ 7:27 was the perfect crop for the video that's how close you want to tape not looking like your waiting for someone coming through the door is frustrating bc I wanted to see what he was doing close up

You spray it/soak it for 10 mins, and have a second set. Hello ppl… we are the originators in sanitation, sterilization, and surgery. Be clean. Don’t make excuses. The hand sanitizing and spray in front a client is a show of cleanliness. If you’re madd busy. Be EVEN more clean. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. And a shitty barber’s client list doesn’t last….Epecially if you’re in a metropolis where there’s maddd other options. And if you’re in a small to medium sized town, shitty barbers MAKE PEOPLE learn how to cut at home.

If you want to blend with your oster76 it's best to use a 1 blade over comb because it won't leave many teeth marks, but every barber should have a liner, a rotary and a magnetic/pivot motor clipper. The 76 is very powerful and it's great for bulk removal, and you can 100% complete a full haircut with them but it's also very heavy so to relieve your wrists and get a nice easy blend it's good to use something like wahl senior
@zoejorgenson9458
@zoejorgenson9458 6 жыл бұрын
GretchenConlin also you want a clipper with a lever because it will open from about a 0 to just under a 1 to help you easily get the line out. To do that with detatchables you would fade down from the 1, to the 0a to the 000 to skin and depending on how tight you are maybe even a 00000

Fantastic haircut-- great tutorial. I love skipping the 1 1/2 and going right to the 1A. Although I must disagree that it is "gross" or "illegal" to use a properly disinfected straight razor on a client. In fact it is a far superior tool to use than the flimsy injectable blades. Check with your state board, but as far as I know, I think only Rhode Island explicitly states that you must use disposable razors.

alphacharlie65ms detachable Blade’s are the best. You don’t need guard. I work at one of the oldest barber shops in New Orleans and the best barber there can do 90% of his cuts with a oster number 1 and a wahl clipper comb. It’s pretty amazing.

Really should spray your blades after use not before. The sprays require 10inutes to completely work. And for those saying "I couldn't wait that long between cuts" you're not....youre using your number 2 then brushing (or I prefer compressed air) then spray and let sit till you use your number two on the next client. Use your guides for as long as you need them but once you're done put them away it wastes time touching things twice.
@BobaDavis
@BobaDavis 3 жыл бұрын
It's really not possible to fade with a detachable blade clipper. There is too much variance between the blade sizes, to try to reconcile those without an adjustable clipper. Detachable blade clippers are good for removing bulk or a single level cut, that's about it.
@Chickenmomcarolsteve
@Chickenmomcarolsteve 5 жыл бұрын
Why take so long to do a simple fade. Use your guards, hold your clippers properly, it is not necessary to grind them into his scalp. Start with your longest guard then go down to 1/4 then to less to fade to zero. Shave the neck and trim out finish top with shears and thinners or a longer guard, cross check to balance and take out any points finish with your your T- edgers. I am a Master Barber too and I agree with you aboutkeeping your impliments clean and hand washing also.
