@@spin.chicken oh absolutely they were but dream at the time was trying to push his brand as the best minecrafter, hence the speedrun cheating and the 1v1 with techno. honestly did enjoy the manhunts as entertainment and was clear they banned strategies cause shit like making new nether portals, splash damage potions or villager trading would be lame/repetitive to repeat. but safe to say his pushing the illusion instead of making it clear his videos were made for entertainment instead of a skill showcase really sours my opinion of him all drama aside lol

this is honestly a cool way of doing the format anyway, as long as there's some honesty about it, suspension of disbelief and some kayfabe can really make it feel real as a viewing experience, plus "manhunt but only the cool things happen, and rest just being retries until something cool enough to keep happens". I honestly think this style of video would be done really interestingly and well with just some more key use of savestates before important scenes, so you can just give it your all in as many situations as possible, with the guarantee of retrying in the moment, and the guarantee of the result being cool for the video. maybe even such that It's still not scripted who wins, just that each new scenario can't end in a way that isn't cool so the runner would need to be actually killed in a hype way in a hype moment to count.

I faked a lot of manhunts with my friends lol. The only problem was that whenever I died I had to set my health, hunger, xp, inventory etc. exactly as it was before. We couldn't turn "/gamerule keep inventory true" because if I killed one of the hunters they wouldn't drop anything. Because of this, every death would take 5-10 minutes of setting everything exactly as it was before I died so nothing would seem suspicious. We had to remember about the smallest things like time of day (Which changes a lot in 5 minutes) . It was extremely annoying so after a few manhunts I came up with a mod that would detect when the hunter is going to deal me a final blow and swich my gamemode to spectetor one tick before I actually died. I just had to swich my gamemode back to survival and keep going. Then I would just cut out the "spectator part" in editing. This made staging manhunts SO MUCH EASIER. Due to this mod manhunts became much more intense because hunters didn't need to hold back at all. Also we could easily stage many heart-stopping moments that required many attempts. I know faking manhunts is wrong but I liked it. I was good at it
