What theorie does a chord progression makes it in E ore A ore whatever. Is that just starting with rootnote (chord) E ore A?
@jlinkpro3 жыл бұрын
A chord progression has chords that are in a key. the chords are labeled by their root note, and the type, such as A minor (A root, and minor chords include the note 3 half-steps up from root, and the note 7 half steps up; C and E in this case). they always use the same pattern in terms of what notes are built; A minor is the same in C major scale, and G major scale. A scale is labeled by root note and type, also. Root note is the first note, and each note is determined by the spacing of notes going up to the next octave. Minor scales do root + 2 half-steps up, 3 half steps up, 5, 7, 8, 10, then 12 half steps up makes for being back at the octave (root note). a better way to think of this is root note, then +2, then +1, +2, +2,+1,+2,+2. Major scales are root,+2,+2,+1,+2,+2,+2,+1. any other scale (harmonic minor, pentatonic, whatever) can be thought of in this way. pentatonic has 5 notes, the standard major and minor keys have 7, and yes there are 6 note keys, etc. as long as the note pattern is the same octave to octave, any collection of notes in an octave can be repeated to make a scale more or less. when people talk of playing in g major, that means they use mostly only the notes G (root), A (+2), B(+2), C(+1),D(+2),E(+2),F#(+2), and that brings us back to G (+1) (root one octave up). if the played E chord;( most normalized chords are a note in a scale, then a note 2 up from root note, and the note 4 up from root note); we can see that the 2 notes up from E is G, and 4 notes up is B. As G is 3 half steps up from E, and B is 7 half steps up, we can also note that E chord is most likely actually E minor, because we built it in G major key. you will find the major and minor keys have 3 major chords, 3 minor chords, and 1 diminished chord (root +3 half steps and root +6 half steps up: it sounds.... dissonantly funky) built in to them, if major or minor is not specified for a chord, usually that means whatever fits naturally in the given key; E is E minor in key of G major in my example. if no key is given, and no chord type is mentioned, assume major chord. ... hope his helps
@chrisking66953 жыл бұрын
The first chord of the chord progression determines the key. So of they start on E major it's a safe bet to say the root is e. Of course there's loads of fusion songs that sound all funky and start on a chord that's within the key but not the root but that's on you to figure out (you'll hear it).

This what everybody I knew that played guitar, myself included, but didn't have access to consistent teachers would do. Someone would show us this pentatonic scale form, and we would just move it up and down the neck, depending on what key. We didn't even use the pinky technique. Oh, that sounds like it is in E, we play it on the seventh fret B. For years that is all I knew. It makes me cringe. Because we all sounded alike. Many guitarists didn't ever even go beyond that, for guitar solos.
