5:40-6:10 is KEY. I also think some situations are more challenging because they’re filled with things we resist. It’s way easier to feel at one with things we like than things that we feel resistance toward. This is one reason why some “spiritual” types are so obsessed with filtering their experiences and avoiding (resisting) ones they think are “unspiritual.” They feel “spiritual” in the beautiful forest, but not at Grease Monkey. So they seek out “spiritual” places, which we could arguably say means they don’t actually understand nondualism at all. In terms of nondualism, no physical location can be MORE spiritual than any other. It’s as if they think that Brahman is of course everywhere-but not at Walmart, or the DMV, or the meat section of the grocery store, or the oil refinery, or the military base. I think that tons of people believe in a sort of fair-weather pseudo Advaita.

Such a wonderful and helpful video, many thanks 🙏 Yesterday I realized a funny thing: as there is no space, there can’t be different places. So sitting at home sipping a cup of coffee and looking at the beautiful plants on the balcony or sitting in the office typing something on the keyboard and looking at the computer screen isn’t another environment! Even walking 25 minutes to the office is just an illusion. Isn’t this funny? I started to take seeing into the hearing while walking. Looking at the ground in front of the moving feet while keeping attention to the symphony of sound is kind of strange. It is as if the ground (cobblestones, pavement …) moves and recreates itself every moment. This really is a funny and stunning perception.

I was sitting with one of my Autistic students yesterday, the Secondary College had a speaker from Live for Life program talking about teenagers struggling with identity and self image. When asked to make a list of 5 people or organisations you would get help from , the Student listed Kids help line phone number twice, then his own name three times. Interesting that he perceived himself as having a separate self to ask for help.

Great point. This non-dual nature is right in front of us! Like water to a fish. The fish doesn't need to "try" to see the water. It's right there! However, we forget this when we're caught up in emotion. So we need to repeatedly practice looking at and enjoying the beautiful water we live in rather than thinking about some shark miles away. 😂

Oh man! I discovered the "monitor" thought three weeks ago - halfway through your book - the part on thoughts. It was so very well camouflaged - going under the guise of consciousness. SInce then there has been rapid progress in my meditation. Since then - and now as I write this - I feel something wanting to float free and something forceful holding me in. The world is looking a bit dream-like - vivid colours - a bit like being on deck of a ship.

Hi ... Im a 22 years old young men from Brazil. Im in this search for enlightment or awakening for a while now. I certainly had glimpses of it, but for some reason I have difficulties to fully realise that there's no one or no thing that is "doing" something or "controlling" my experience. Can you be so kind and please make a video talking about it and teaching how to do it ? Or send me a link of one if you alredy made it. Thanks so much eighter way, your videos are helping me so much. I wouldn't necessarily recommend trying to understand non-doership, it's something that comes upon you at deeper stages of realization. Rather work toward awakening. The playlists basics of awakening and awakening approaches address this, as does my book.

You can get it, Sean. And when you do, you will see that it was so easy you missed it. What concept do you have that makes you believe that the subject and object (Sean and Angelo) are not of the same substance? For that matter, include the appearance of the telly, home, and all the rest of it with your inquiry. Separation and multiplicity are thoughts and appearances.

It's the overlay thta fixates the mind. ultimately regardless of content its there and it's vivid and fully immersed. It takes us a while to see that the content isn't in the seeing, it's in our mind so attention recoils back in to turn "that" into something.

@@jameskerr3257 Your everywhere, but actually it is all no-where, but in the mind. So it kind of depends on your view, your awareness, to see where you are more in the moment, than in the physical. I see it as a dream, it is not real enough to say "I am here" at any location, all locations are illusions, part of the dream. If from within the dream you wonder where you are, that is probably what other dreams call a place, but again, it is very perspective driven.

I have some questions not related to this video. I have not heard you speak on death. My thought is that for the population that believes in the separate self … there is a continued journey of the individuated soul. This may be an onward journey to subtler realms and eventually reincarnation. For realized individuals there won’t be much difference to the experience after the death of the physical body. But with the complete dissolution of the ‘I’ there would be no localization or ability to do so E.G experience this tree …don’t you have to be all all the time? I hope I’m clear in what I’m trying to convey.
@SimplyAlwaysAwake
@SimplyAlwaysAwake 2 жыл бұрын
The illusion of death is what dies. What is trhe experience of the tree without an experiencer? It is not nothing because nothing is an illusion held by the experiencer, which itself is an illusion...

@@SimplyAlwaysAwake thanks for the response. I lost my beloved dog a few months ago. His body for sure died. His unique perspective and way of being in the world - I don’t know where that went. Or if that was unreal in the first place since personality is a made up construct (per non duality). Even if I had ‘realization’ ‘I’ would recognize him as a manifestation of the divine and have great love for him that would be specific to him vs a generic love for all dogs. I don’t know. A non dual state may end suffering but the theory of non duality sure does not for me at least not yet.

Do some people just NEVER have an awakening? No matter how much meditation and inquiry they do? I mean, in medicine you'd never say to an ALS patient "Just hang in there, things will get better" because they won't. Are there people who just can not wake up, no matter what?
@SimplyAlwaysAwake
@SimplyAlwaysAwake 2 жыл бұрын
No, I don't think so. If you have a genuine drive to awakening and are willing to inquire, let go of beliefs that are found to be inaccurate, and feel some discomfort then you can wake up. If you have no interest in it you probably won't. Even then many people who have no interest in awakening do wake up out of the blue. In the ALS example, there would be no reason to tell a person with an incurable disease it would get better. Luckily mind-identification is indeed a curable disease (so to speak).
@JohnFixxer
@JohnFixxer 2 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyAlwaysAwake You say "If you have a genuine drive to awakening and are willing to inquire, let go of beliefs that are found to be inaccurate, and feel some discomfort then you can wake up." The key here is the word 'can'. Does that mean that EVERYONE who meets those criteria wakes up?" In my experience the answer is no. I have meditated and done inquiry for many years, and though I've had interesting experiences, I wouldn't say that the sense of self has been seen through. So based on actual experience, not theory, I would say that mind-identification is a curable disease for some, but not for others.

@@SimplyAlwaysAwake I think he's trying to say that not everyone who wants to wake up does, unfortunately. Putting the "ultimate" aside (if there is such a thing), in the conventional sense, one can spend many years/decades seeking and not wake up.
@SimplyAlwaysAwake
@SimplyAlwaysAwake 2 жыл бұрын
@@CJ-ff1xq I’m not talking theoretically, the point of these exchanges and videos is to help anyone who truly wants to wake up do so. Sometimes part of that is discerning their intent. When I say that anyone who genuinely wants to wake up, is willing to go through what you have to go through to do so, can wake up I mean it literally. But the statement is for the person reading it it’s not an abstract or philosophical claim.
