In my front loader I've found I can felt just as well in a cool wash, so I've stopped using hot for felting.

Thank you - I will have to try that!

I'm DEFINITELY going to try this! fyi, you can use tennis balls in the dryer. They are always needed when drying a down coat or feather duvet to break apart the clumps so they will dry properly. It'll be interesting to find out if tennis balls in the dryer help the felting process. :-)

@@DoodleDogPrimitives I washed a men's XL sweater and it felted down to a child's size! 😁👌 I put the tennis balls into the dryer too and it's possible that it helped felt it further but it's hard to say. The bulk of felting was definitely in the washer.

Will one treatment shrink the wool down enough that I can later wash and dry the fabric without more shrinkage?
@DoodleDogPrimitives10 ай бұрын
I don't think I would wash and dry it in the dryer. It MIGHT be ok if you hand washed and line dried.

@@DoodleDogPrimitives Well, it sounds like I may need to process it a few times, then. I want to make baby and possibly pet toys that will need to be washed occasionally Thank you!

Where do you buy your wool and what type of wool? There are so many choices.
@DoodleDogPrimitives4 ай бұрын
It can be tricky when shopping - especially online to make sure you get the right thing. You don't want it to be too loose of a weave or too thick of a fabric. I usually purchase from a store that specializes in rug hooking. So far, that has always gotten me wool that is good for hooking. I have had good luck with Dorr Mill Store. If you are unsure, just ask the store before purchasing. I find most places to be helpful!
