I can think of one remotely practical reason why she might've taken her hair down: If her hairstyle wasn't secure enough to reliably stay in place during vigorous physical activity, then leaving it up would've just resulted in it falling awkwardly half-down while still having uncomfortable tension from the bits that didn't fall all the way out of their constraints, making her feel like an octopus was trying to eat her head. I'd rather have my hair entirely down and only loosely getting in my eyes and mouth, than find myself strangled in my own hair tentacles. I think I may just have revealed a bit too much about what my hair is like, but I stand by it.
@barzaka12

I second this. Whatever physical activity I do I prefer my hair down. It really bothers me when it's tied up. Keep in mind that I'm a male, but have bellow shoulder length hair

It also seems to be held in place by just a hair pin, so I could see removing the sharp pointy object from your hair might be good to use it as a weapon later (which they didn’t do unfortunately) or too at least ensure it doesn’t get grabbed out of your hair and used as a weapon on you. I don’t know much about practical fighting, but would it also be plausible that having your hair all about would make it more difficult for an opponent to grab a big handful and jerk your head around? Like, don’t get me wrong, having a chunk of hair pulled out of your head won’t be fun, but I’m pretty sure is someone got a good hold of my ponytail the fight would be over
@taracampbell2433
@taracampbell2433 2 жыл бұрын
I second (third?) this. My first and second choice would be tightly bound (ie. braid or bun), or shoved down my collar, respectively. But my 3rd choice would be loose because of the aforementioned awkward 1/2 down hair tentacles problem. Also, taking a back fall with a sharp pointy object in my hair just does not seem like a good idea. Heck, I've fallen intentionally and properly in practice and landed on a bobby-pinned bun and I swear one pin tried to penetrate my brain, so yeah, I'd rather have the stick out and hair down instead. For context, my hair is hip length and I've fought with it both up and down in martial arts bouts.

As a martial artist, I favour wearing shoes over bare feet every time. However, wearing shoes makes it difficult to roll the spear onto the foot before flipping it up and catching it. I would imagine that this is virtually impossible wearing heels. The spear would most likely bounce of your foot and roll embarrassingly across the floor to stop in front of your opponent.

Jill, having worn flip flop style sandals in a wrecking yard in the 1970's, I can attest, SANDALS DON'T PROTECT AGAINST GLASS. Had a piece that flipped onto the sandal and then into my heel. It had to be surgically removed. Yeah. Not good. Not good at all. My foot's fine, as I not only was able to walk and run on it, but I did marching band in high school and college (so about ten years).

The difference between off-the-rack relatively cheap formal wear and the expensive sort (even when it's not couture) is the under structure. Any expensive formal dress--especially one that is either drapey or shows skin in ways that it might be difficult to wear a bra with--is going to have a lot of structure inside where you can't see it. So you don't need to wear a bra with it, because the gown provides the support. And you don't have to worry about the drapey bits flopping about or hanging in an unflattering way or twisting or stretching in a way they're not supposed to because they're not anywhere *near* as free-flowing as they look. There will be boning that you'll never notice unless you're actually inspecting the garment in a hands-on way; there may be other sorts of things like tapes and specially stiffened fabrics. That's why they always look perfect and there aren't any weird creases or folds or bulges or love handles and the bodices always look perfectly as they're supposed to. That's also one reason why they're so much more expensive even when they aren't high-end designers--there's a lot more material in them, and a *lot* more work in constructing them. So yeah. A woman wearing a high-end formal gown doesn't need to worry about wearing a bra or shapewear with it; the gown effectively IS a bra and shapewear (in addition to being a gown). Which means you don't have to worry about the girls flopping around if you're trying to fight in it.

I remember a very similar fight at an Embassy Cocktail party in S01E03 of the 2010 series Human Target. Christopher Chance (Mark Valley) and Agent Emma Barnes (Emanuelle Vaugier) fight in a tuxedo and red dress respectively, ends with her having a knife to his throat and she thinks she's won only to realise that the slit in her dress means that he's got a knife to her femoral artery. Probably a lot shorter and less showy given the TV budget, but was a fun series IIRC. Love that your Mum watches and immediately thinks of you (as we all do now!) when seeing someone wearing wedges.

Another great video Jill. One thought about taking her hair down for the fight is if it was held in place with a sharp pin, you might not want to have something that can stab into your head while bouncing around. Being someone who has fought a lot and has long hair, having it out of your face is important, but having hair in your eyes is probably better than having your hair pin stab you.
@rajamicitrenti1374

Pro wrestlers have for decades generally preferred having long hair that is down for two reasons: 1) Punches to the face look more impactful with the hair flaying around. 2) The hair hides that the punch did not connect from any angle that it would normally be obvious. Maybe they took her hair down to take advantage of option 2 to save on extra takes with new camera angles?

Just going to throw my two cents behind this. I work at a supply store catering the film and television costume departments. Double-sided toupee tape is something will sell in copious amounts, and would likely be all over this situation. For added "coverage" there would likely be some amount of what's referred to as modesty wear. This is usually some manner of skin coloured undergarment with adhesive points so even if there is a slip of some form, no one really sees anything.

So what's safer from grabbing hands, a ponytail/bun (which I imagine gives your opponent more to hold on to) or free flowing hair (which I imagine gives your opponent more opportunity to grab something, but only less of it)? PS: I remember seeing a few football clips where instead of the traditional shirt pull a ponytail pull/yank was applied (and resulted in at least a yellow card). Mostly if not all women's games, not sure if there were any men's games in the mix.

Maybe it's just me (medium-long hair with many sibling fights growing up), but I think it's more painful when someone pulls a handful of hair, especially if they are pulling closer to the roots. Martial arts has also taught me that grabbing hair gives the bad guy more close control of your head and body. So for me the answer is hair up, keep bad guys from getting close enough to grab a handful of hair near the roots. The actual safest would probably be milkmaid braids or some other similar style with no loose hair.

only slightly related but i think at one point an s***** assulter was asked around hair and he said that things like braids, ponytails ect were easier to grab on to quickly than loose and that was partly how he picked same logic may apply to fights? but buns and close to the head styles wpuld definitely be best (this is also half remembered about that interview thing)

Probably, the biggest issue with mobility in suit jackets is the cut of the armhole. They are typically cut larger to fit a wider range of men. If you can get one cut smaller ( in other words, fitting higher up under the arm) you actually have a greater range of movement. There are a lot of online companies making custom fitted suits these days at reasonable prices.

I didn't see what exactly she took out of her hair, but her movement suggests it was some sort of hairpin or hair clip, both of which would do a lot of damage when she fell backwards. I hit my head very slightly while wearing a hair clip and it still hurt a week later. So, in a fight, I would take out everything except hairbands and ribbons.

Lillie: “I really doubt my sun and tea party dress aren’t perfect for this party especially for this type of brutal combat.” “It’s I’m guessing also hard to take blood stains off my white dress and play it off as jam. But I am wearing my slipper/loafer. Lol.”

*i've heard that stubborn blood stains are easily removed with club soda or sparkling water...you know, just in case you ever need to remove blood stains as a result of an overly kinetic tea party or finger food buffet*

Rinsing the stain with cool water and then soaking in lukewarm salty water is also effective.

A great way to remove blood stains is hydrogen peroxide. And cold water, never warm or, god forbid, hot. That will set the stain for good.

I do not recommend flip-flops in an area with a lot of glass. I have not tried them in that context, but I know that they are bad for walking around in the woods in: twigs tend to get stuck between the sandal and foot, and then - congratulations - you have a new piercing! Glass may behave differently given that broken shards tend to be wider in one dimension and might be shorter in another, but I would not want to risk it.

Another fun and informative video. I suppose it's a disadvantage women rarely wear hats indoors these days. The good person not losing a hat during the fight is another way for the actor - stunt double switch.

Oh to be so witty and amusing, while being so informative. Commando, with all that entails, having fought in nothing to bomb-disposal armour I'd say the dress looks very practical, although I'd simply prefer shorts/pants. I'm afraid I can't comment on combat wedges as they never had them in my size. Oddly, now I live near Brighton, there are many shops that want to sell me heels.
