How to Fill a Butane Lighter

Your brand new lighter isn't broken, it's probably just out of fuel. In this video we're talking about how to properly purge and fill any butane lighter.

Another tip, if one of your jets is not working good or working at all, take your butane filler and press it on the jet (NOT hot obviously) for it to spray the butane on it. usually clears out the crud on the jets. I’ve repaired a lot of lighters doing this!

I would never use a paper clip. Many valves have large or micro rubber gaskets and it will eventually damage it. Many you can’t see but are inside, especially torches. Use a ball point pen that doesn’t write (ink comes out), or pull out the metal tip from an old pen so it doesn’t have ink, a scorer for paper crafts, (which has a small ball), or simply use your butane adapter and hold it! Make sure to turn the lighter down at the end because it will stop hissing until you turn upside down where the last of the butane will hiss out. (Gravity). Use something that doesn’t scratch or damage your valve. They aren’t hard to break!

I had a lot of trouble with mine until I learned to put them in the freezer for about an hour first. However you would try hard to avoid lighters that need an adapter. Adapters are a real PITA. If it needs and adapter, don't buy or send it back.

Also take note to _only_ use a high quality butane fuel as cheap fuel will clog and ruin the lighter. I only use butane fuel that has been filtered at a minimum of 5 times or more such as Vector butane fuel, etc. I'm not about to screw up my $130 Corona lighter by saving a few dollars with cheap fuel which has happened in the past!

Your lighter might be full, either with butane or air. Purge your lighter and try again.
