I cant fill the hole from the outside, can i get this job done inside only, as outside is very narrow and high up. Can the hole be filled from the inside only successfully ? only that I'de have to leave the square plastic on the outside. Any suggestions. I rather do it myself then call anyone in ?
@macplastering Жыл бұрын
That might work as long as the vent is good and waterproof mate if not best to do both sides also be cautious not to drop to much gear down cavity
@priscilladevi9705 Жыл бұрын
@@macplastering Thank you. I'm going to have to do it from the inside, no way I can go out. Perhaps 🤔 get a round vent type of water proof plastic thing then put that trough the hole first for extra outside protection ( but from the inside) then stick a lot of pebbles then put in sand and cement then obvs when dry paint over it, scared to do it but it's got to be done. It sounds mad but might work 🤞

Just wondering could you use expanding foam to fill the hold first and then put sand and cement over? Thanks
@macplastering2 жыл бұрын
Yes but wouldn't be as good as this would be slightly weaker but if not to big should be ok
@mryan4452 Жыл бұрын
This may seem a bit of strange question, but if I 'seal' a hole in the wall on both ends with render, should I first fill the hole with some material? Would condensation (from heating and cooling the house) not form on inside of the hole, as it does in a chimney if you seal up both ends of the chimney with only air left in the middle? The reason I ask is because the hole I have runs 'parallel' to the plasterboard and so damp inside hole would be a problem. I could fill the hole in with expanding foam or something similar, then render on the outside. Maybe I am over thinking this though lol. Thanks.
@macplastering Жыл бұрын
Most houses should already have a ventilation system installed for the reason you say this hole was from an extrator van not a vent but some insulation in won't hurt at all my friend 😉
@mryan4452 Жыл бұрын
@@macplastering I actually think the hole was for an old satellite dish cable! Hole was drilled quite large. Will fill it just to be safe. Thanks 👍

I’ve got damp patches and now mould on my downstairs toilet. Was convinced it must have been the seal around the bath as it’s directly above. Spent two days sorting that but the ceiling has gotten worse over the past two weeks. Climbed up on my garage roof today and there is a hole in the outside wall, just above the toilet ceiling, that you could easily fit a ping pong ball in. Could this be causing the issue? Could I fill this with just cement or do I need to call someone in? Honestly, who’d own a house 🙄🫠
@macplastering Жыл бұрын
Hi yes these things can be a pian to sort it could well be that hole letting the water in best to fill it up to be safe I would mix a little 3 to 1 mix of sand and cement to fill it. And try air room out as much as possible kill and clean mould and inspect to see if it was the cause

For the hole.. I've understood the concrete mix. But for the render, what's the mix? Or is it just the same concrete mix?

Guys, sorry here but I'm a DIY newbie, actually no, I'm DIY idiot would be more accurate. My problem is a extractor van hole in the kitchen. It's not required any more and I want to fill it in. The wall is concrete cavity block which was about 7-8 years pumped with more insulation as part of the home insulation you could a grant. Could you please tell me what I need to do ? Sorry for the stupid questions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZqYZ4OdqMdses0 This other video shows a guy using a thermolite block which he cuts circular using a core drill, bit smaller than the hole, seals it in, but he only shows you from the inside what he does ? You show what you do from the outside ? Could you please help me understand what I need to do for both ends, the inside (inner wall of the kitchen) and the outside (outer wall of the kitchen) Do I do what he did on the inside wall and then on the outside I do what you did? At this rate between what the guy did on the inside (the drill, the drill bit...the thermal block) your cement mixer for the outside I might as well call some-one. It would probably be just as cheap or am missing something here completely. Apologies for been an DIY idiot. Any help here would be much appreciated

Hi gary mate so i would do what i do in this vid on both sides you can just cut a brick and use it but dont fill the cavity.... dont need a mixer - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKKynoKuhKiXiKs that method will work great on the inside you fill with sand and cement then keep it back some to fill with finishing plaster so 1st day cut a few pices to fit hole build them in using sand n cement next day (day2) fill like i do here and finish outside if possible if needs do a build out coat and let that set then finish with fresh mix keep inside cut back a few mill like 3 mm is great 3rd day skim inside and finish outside if you didn't get that done beforehand hope this helps we have loads of patching plaster videos on channel
