Excellent video. Well explained and perfectly paced for someone who is needing to learn a new skill. Not sure what ‘experienced’ fishers are doing on a tutorial complaining? Keep it up. Thanks heaps mate

Hey @dylanvandeleur697, Thanks for the kind words and it's great to hear that the pace and explanation worked for those wishing to learn a new skill. That's what we were hoping for, so I'm glad we didn't miss the mark. There are plenty of different ways to fillet them, but I remember my dad teaching me this method as a young bloke and it has always stuck with me... it helps to break down the build of the fish and how to end up with minimal waste. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin

Loved it, very impressed by your method. Methodical, with great care you do justice to this nice fish. And the leftovers are not wasted either.

nice job mate thats awesome! love learning new methods ! ya'all, Dont be scared to learn how to make a fish stock bloody simple , so you can utilized the frame 😁 basic stock - a few frames is better(roast frames if you want a darker stock) -clear stock= onion, celery, carrot, bay leaves, pepper corns, cloves ,salt and water(lt's depends on how many frames ya have) for a basic stock .. gentle boil for an hour strain through fine strainer. reduce stock for another hour on simmer.. use that stock in a seafood pasta/soup/ whatever! .. you can then adjust that stock to whatever flavors you want to - thai, chinese, italian, indian whatever..

GREAT educational video. One of our boniest fish is the Northern Pike in Alaska US. I have never seen that hand skinning technique...but will definitely be giving that a try! I will be in NSW in a few week. I know you make it look easier than it probably is, but I feel MUCH more prepared for cleaning anything I keep for dinner. Thank You!

I had never caught a flatty before 18 months ago. But after living on wallis lake near Forster for last 15 months I have caught more flatties than I ever thought possible. Most go back but I eat a few each week and always use this method you do in the video. but I have a sashimi knife set which has awesome bone tweezers, makes pulling put bones very fast, almost surgical. Great video

Keep the frames, don't throw away, use in the berley bucket. My dad used the backbones for bait.

Never thought to pre-cut the rib bones. That should make filleting easier next time. I wear a glove on my left hand when filleting so I don't cut myself.

Sorry but I think it's sacrilege taking the skin off. Crispy skin on a flathead is just the best. Flatty wings crisp up beaut also
@geoffcohen6132 жыл бұрын
Agree, stuff up the fillet if don't know what your doing. Taste good on the fillet.
@chalkmagoo60022 жыл бұрын

@Leytonstone0921 күн бұрын
There a lots of reasons to not have the skin on especially in a restaurant. Sure it might be great with skin on but it's kinda boring to eat it the same way every time

18 minutes to fillet a flathead? wtf?
@tackletacticstv768723 күн бұрын
Hey @officialWWM, 18 minutes to demonstrate how to fillet a flathead, and plenty of people that have had success following this technique. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin

@ maybe but if you have 10 or 15 to process, you are going to be there forever!
@tackletacticstv768721 күн бұрын
@@officialWWM Plenty of other vids / guides out there... this one will make sure that someone just starting understands the build of the fish and how to get the most out of the fish. We generally keep a few for a fresh feed and that's about maximum. I'm sure that anglers keeping more, or fishing southern waters for smaller flathead, will find a way to speed up the process. All the best with the fishing. Cheers, Justin

@tackletacticstv7687 thank you. Just try leave skin on. Fillet down to tail don't cut off flip over. Remove tail section from skin. Grab fillet with clean wrag then pull skin off fillet. Removes all skin and bones. Please try
