Gopros are one of those camera that have revolutionised filming outdoor pursuits and I am not sure there are any youtubing fishermen who don’t own a gopro and make good use of them. As a lure maker and fisherman I have been strapping them and shoving them in places where I wouldn’t dream of putting a full sized digital camera; including underwater. The only trouble with using these cameras underwater is unless you get wet you have really no idea what you’re filming. This can be frustration to find an afternoon’s footage is not really what you expected. Although most gopros have wifi these days that can connect your camera to a mobile phone for a preview , the trouble is wifi seldom travels more than a couple of inches in water before becoming unusable for a connection. To get round this I used some coaxial cable the kind stuff used for tv aerials, to make the connection between the gopro and smartphone. With the camera one end of a pole and the mobile on the other I could connect and get a live feed from the camera so I didn't have to leave it all to chance

It is very sad seeing this channel die like this. I know it is hard work making videos and Paul probably have more important stuff to do, but it is still sad. Best channel ever if you ask me. I wish you all the best things Paul

I dont blame him. It must be very frusrating as a YT creator when on paper you are supposed to have all of these subs but when you put out a new video only a very small percentage of those so called subs watch the videos and the views are miles away from the sub numbers. Whats the point in making all of the effort it must take to make these videos when those that supposed to be subs and support the channel dont particulary as ite FREE! Its not just his channel it appears to be a common thing. Why do people sub to channels if they do not watch the videos and truly support the channel.

Please don't stop making videos, you are the first youtuber that ever made me realize anyone can make their own lures with just the tools you have around the house. You see, its not the productions quality of you videos that make them, its not your uncanny skill for making such incredible creations with so many improvised resources, its your vision, your thoughts, your outlook and inspiration. Its no secret that the most successful channels, especially in this subject matter, are littered with misleading clickbait more focused on production quality or focusing on a lot of projects with little thought or direction to the project itself. But your videos give vision, so please, follow that vision. Movies, like Kuba really showed your creativity and idealism, I'm sure we all would like to see more of that. PS, if you ever find yourself in the states in New England, hit me up, I'll be sure to get you one some Striped Bass and maybe pull some strings for some bluefin. Thankyou for everything you have done- Adam

I have been making wooden lures for about 3 months starting with some old broom handles before I bought some basswood. I just got the hard bait kit from makelure.com and I am excited to upgrade to making plastic lures. I am hand painting them at the moment, but intend to get airbrushing equipment eventually. You are one of the people that inspired me to get into this hobby and make something beautiful and useful. Thank you Paul! Please continue to create and inspire.

Hi Paul , much like the other enthusiastic followers I can only endorse their comments and the well deserved appreciation but unfortunately as is often the case this doesn’t translate into a reasonable payment for all the hard work in producing such valuable material. Finding your channel was like a breath of fresh air after wading through hours of egotistical , product placing . I can well understand that confronted with this situation you’re going to ask if it’s all worthwhile but please remember , even so , there are many like myself who really value the inspiration you provide. Would it be possible to email you direct as I’m having difficulty printing some of your superb drawings which will be invaluable as I’m gathering all the material needed to make a start . I’m a joiner by trade but unfortunately , owing to a serious illness affecting my mobility I can no longer work . Following your excellent videos the seed was planted and now I can keep myself occupied producing lures All the very best and I’m sincerely hoping for another video in the future .

This video has finally answered my question. How do I get a camera under water to see the type of bottom I'll be fishing on to make notes of them. love the whole clamp on a landing net pole idea. That will give me an idea of the margins and at slight depth. Now I have to figure out how to see what's under water 50 to 100 yards out.

Paul, the limitation of 30 fps is just a limitation in that entry level hero right? If I use another GoPro that records 1080P in 60 fps that will result in video quality that can be used in slow motion right? Great video and idea.
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 5 жыл бұрын
i think you maybe right, you can get a preview in 1080 superwide whihc is 48 frame per second, I normally render out at 24 frames a second so techincally i could get half speed. but i am guessing in the high end gopros you can preview at higher frame rates, they have also different wifi signals and options as to what connection signal you use. I was hoping some cleaver dick out there would have some answers an leave some input, i am a bit of Luddite, with these, put me behind a conventional camera and i can take iso, bmps all day

Why not us screw thread on landing net
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 5 жыл бұрын
the last section of this landing net has a standard net thread but i never use it because it gets too wobbley, i do have adaptors for camera thread to landing net threads which is the same banks sticks, which i use instead of tripods on the bank with small cameras. But if you have stiff enough pole there is no reason not to use the landing net thread. Before i had the landing net pole i was using a long extension paint roller pole, thanks

Will i need to get the cable inside the waterproof housing?
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 5 жыл бұрын
no, just on the back of it, the housing is plastic
@andyroo2232
@andyroo2232 5 жыл бұрын
It appears not. As long as the cable is very close to the housing it should pick up the broadcast wifi signal from the gopro which is then carried up the cable to the phone. The problem I believe occurs when the wifi signal hits the surface changes mediums from water to air, the signal is then scattered. So having the wire carry the signal through that transition is what makes this work.
@morganogwenpysgota
@morganogwenpysgota 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, so i could just tape it to my phone and my waterproofhousing
@andyroo2232

@@morganogwenpysgota Sure! I think he chose the molded plastic since the water won't peel it off like the tape will. I'm sure it would last but my guess is over time the adhesive of the tape would peel loose.

Paul - here's an idea to guarantee framing for your underwater footage that will save time, frustration and (I would have said "saves film stock" back in the day, but ... ) saves battery life:I'm sure you have some rods that have broken that you haven't yet fixed, so take the top section, or chop a blank to fit, put a camera crab claw clip (I can type it, if not say it quickly) on the bottom end, another about 12" up from that with a section of rod blank attached to it, and a third clamp at the end of that section. You now have a re-positionable "1/2-leg" of a Y where you can adjust the angle of the rod offset from your camera pole and how far it extends in front of the camera. Tie on your line/leader and your lure so that when you drag the whole rig through the water, the lure will be center frame and in focus. Should be a better time moving just the one pole through the water, or walking along the bank than having to deal with the camera pole, and the fishing rod, too. Naturally, if you want the footage to be the lure swimming towards the camera, you have that already sorted, and the 1/2-Y rig is detachable.
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 5 жыл бұрын
great minds think a like, i have use that set up before, with the tip of a rod, normally i carry a little triangle of wood and just gaffer tape it on with the rod tip a little way back from the camera and then set a trace length so it fall in the middle of the shot , if you look back to part 3 of the phox weight shift minnow build i am using that rig in the final shots and in the cranks bait video at the end. It is great for framing, the only draw back with it is it can look a bit static because it is always in the right place, and on swim baits it is hard to get great jerking shots as the camera and the lure are connected, but maybe it needs some more experimentation, thanks kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGmsfGVomdJ_pdU
