"Let the shadows fall where they may" makes so much sense. Never realized that explicitly but that's generally what I end up doing.

I think people forget that real life has shadows. Everyone tries to push as much highlight detail and shadow detail as possible but realistically, the eyes are guided by highlights and shadows.
