You can’t be authentic if you don’t deeply know yourself so discover who u are at the core. and also it’s not about adding it’s about removing all the layers of the conditions build by others, experiences etc etc

0:26 For me those things stem not from social anxiety (which is what I was initially told) but from autism. What I’ve accomplished in life is a function of masking my true self. If I hadn’t conformed and performed I’d be sleeping in the rain, wandering the streets and muttering to myself

Don’t take this the wrong way, but I see this whole “Authenticity” trend as a weaponised term to keep people in their place. From what I’m saying, I’m starting to see a trend where people are making it seem as if re-inventing yourself is a bad thing. It’s annoying when you hear people say shit like “that’s not you” or “stay in your lane”. Also, I feel like authenticity is a privilege because not everyone can be their authentic self and for it to work out in their favour. Certain personality traits and mannerisms are favoured in society over others. This is just an alternate perspective. I just think that your true vulnerable self should be reserved for those who deserve to see and experience it. For those who have proven their loyalty to you.

this is a really good perspective, thanks for sharing :)

I think there isnt only one thing you can do (be authentic or re-invent yourself) I think you can do both. People that say "thats not you" or "stay in your lane" should keep it to their own anyways bcs it's you who decides what you wanna do and who you wanna be. I think being authentic to who you are is to be who you really internally want to be, what you are drawn to, what you deeply know are your values and principles (for example) and sometimes it means you have to re-invent your current self to get back to who you truly are. Because sometimes we don't even notice that we started to shift into a direction we don't even really like.

Authenticity means embracing every part of ourselves, even the messy bits. This video is a wonderful guide on how to start doing just that. 🌻

I really really LOVE your channel. This is probably the best channel and podcast on KZbin to be honest. Amazing video, ideas, and perspective. I’ve dealt a lot with severe social anxiety growing up, this is like gold information to me… and I very much take notes and want to remember these tips.

Hi Christina. I like the depth in which you explore the emotional issues and where the roots of suppressing emotions come from. You said the video was very deep and might not be what people were expecting -- well, I was! The deeper the better. Thanks for sharing your perspective and learnings, it's very helpful. :)

I have also struggled A LOT with fear and shame. Expressing those emotions is key but I also wanna add that not focusing too much on those feelings is also important. It’s something I’ve done wrong in the past, that’s why I mention it. You are not just an anxious, fearful person. You are a person who sometimes experiences fear and anxiety

Amazing video, keep posting more!!! But I didn't understand how to express my negative emotions, because right after the video I tried to talk to some people and, obviously, my social anxiety kicked in and I couldn't express it, I could only suppress it to try to stay in the conversation without looking weird. So, what would be the best thing to do to vent these emotions?
@biggestarcticmonkeysfan3 ай бұрын
exactly what i was thinking!! in social convos i feel shame sometimes bc i don’t speak up, but expressing my shame and feeling the emotion fully isn’t going to get rid of the emotion
@ChristinaAaliyah3 ай бұрын
it doesn't always have to be talking to people - i didn't talk about it much in the video but sometimes this can just be journaling - exploring your negative emotions more in a safe space

They say be authentic yet many say dont tell people your future plans ie career etc. To be authentic then you have to spill beans on your plans 😮
@veronikaljungberg71493 ай бұрын
I also struggle with the nuance in this area. Hopefully it will get clearer with time and reflection...
@asamabry3 ай бұрын
some people will try to sabotage your plans or put you down. i think there's different layers to authenticity. similar to how your boundaries will be different with your mom than maybe your friend. you'll act differently around both, but that doesn't mean it isnt the real you. it's a different part that you're showing.

You can be authentic with your present values, hobbies, interests, passions, etc. Goals are just a future expression of those same things. Nothing is lost if people don't know your goals

I feel that this video is missing something. In order to be our authentic selves, we need to live life according to our values. For some of us religious folks, we worship God and put him first above all else because fame, money, humans etc are not worthy to be worshipped, put on a pedestal even or have them attached to your heart.

*looks at video title* Because your going to hurt somebody... you know they always say "be yourself, Show your true colors you shouldnt pretend to be something your not" that only works for normal people that only applies to normal functioning people Think of like the quiet kid, They think oh hes shy or introverted no that stereotype about them is REAL he NEEDS to be like that cause hes dangerous and there's nothing cool or fun about it ( for people that say oh "he's him" type of energy ) that quiet kid person is not allowed to be a human he cant date he cant have friends he cant be social or out in public ( technically ) cause he is dangerous like need psychological revaluation Dangerous... Needs professional help on medication dangerous

What? But the quiet kid is just like the rest of us, he’s also just a normal human. He’s allowed of everything idk what ur talking about

Be yourself doesn't mean stay the way you are if it's bothering you. You have every right to change, sometimes you can't know who you are unless you become a different person than the one you currently are. Self-acceptance doesn't mean stay stuck in the same place forever whether you like it or not. Accept the parts you already like, improve the ones you don't
@gohan27913 ай бұрын
@augustgirl2905 No no no... your overgeneralizing, Your generalizing all quiet kids he can be like that for any reason literally any reason one of those reasons is cause he has an illness a mental illness he can't not be around people he's gonna hurt someone
