Seams are definietly more difficult to patch but there are a few things you can try. Using a self adhesive patch you can apply force to the seam with the patch on and most of the time you can get it to seal well. Definitely the hardest patch to make though!

for me i use a single (low to the floor) twin Intex air mattress. they're cheap and the most comfortable and i'm always careful. i use it because i'm a stomach sleeper and is the easiest on my back for that, but it seems after only a couple months every time, it eventually shrinks. nothings been stuck through it and i put 2 underspreads on the bed (one for each side) to prevent any debris from embedding to the material. all my leaks happen on the the seam of the top of the beds (the phelt side). i'd even apply the patch to it in the past but air always escaped so i stopped bothering and just chucked it each time and bought a new one. they were cheap enough. i hope this video addresses the seams wearing away too from nightly use, even though i'm extremely careful how i handle it.

Hey I really appreciate this video. I had a leak in the bottom of my air mattress that I found with feeling the air on my damp lips. I first tired just listening and seeing if I couldn't feel in on my face, but the damp method worked much better. Actually it seemed to be three very small slits in a triangle 1/2 in triangle patten. That made no noise and were very hard to feel even with this method unless I had the mattress really full and I was putting a lot of pressure on it. It would only go down just a little after sleeping on it for several hours. I tried the soapy water method suggested in another video to verify, but it was difficult to get it to bubble. Much more difficult than feeling the air against my wet lips about two inches from the mattress. Also I have small inflatable back pillow that likewise had a hole, but would take and hour or two to deflate leaning against it. This method worked very well for it too, but of course was much easier to find as the surface was much smaller. Thanks again! :)

We are so poor we only have an air mattress and sadly my 6 year old jumped on it today and punctured it. :( there is a gaping hole on one of the seams so on the floor we go...
@cynho30937 жыл бұрын
I have slept on a single width air bed every night for years but the beds only last a few months with daily use. Only 1 had a repairable hole all others were in the seam. If you sit on the side of the air bed, you will weaken the seam - usually the bed is useless any time I sit on the side but it's hard to get out of bed without sitting on the side. I try to roll in & out of bed instead. I have found that a mattress will last MUCH longer if you can support the seam. One way is to put a firm foam strip (about 8" thick & wide) next to the seam so when you put weight on the seam edge it's supported. BUT it's hard to keep the foam in place. My recent "trick" was to take the last dead bed & cut off the end & slit all but one side of the inside supports (so that the last inside support next to the other side seam is fully supported) & slip the new uninflated air bed inside before airing up. In theory this should disperse the weight off the seam & this recent bed has lasted 4 months so far. Unfortunately this makes the bed smaller, next time I am using the old twin (& removing ALL inside supports) & inserting a full mattress which is 14" wider & see if that will work. Another suggestion is to goop ALL the seams & let fully dry BEFORE using the air mattress but I've never actually tried this. This may give the seams extra support. I did try taping all the seams with wide packing tape on one bed BEFORE using & that was worthless. I buy my beds during the winter from Walmart & paid $8 for them last time, usually $15.

108travel, if you lightly sand down the flocking/flannel material until it feels like the actual vinyl, you can then patch it in a more secure and easier manner.
@satnitcboy9 жыл бұрын
Decent advice. My method: First, vacuum the mattress using the narrow wand tool to get rid of dust and dirt that will make visual identification difficult. Then: 1. LOOK - some cuts or punctures will be visible. 2. TOUCH - slowly move your hands over the entire mattress, at a distance of about 1/2", to see if you can feel air leaving the leak - rather than wetting my lips, as in the video, I'd wet my palms. 3. LISTEN - in a silent room you can often hear the air as it exits the leak. Ear to the mattress is not quite as unappealing as lips to the mattress! If possible PLACE THE MATTRESS ON ANOTHER BED OR A LARGE TABLE while you do the work - the harder you make the job, the more frustrating it will be. Note: You might find an extremely small leak by touch or sound that you can't quite see. Just a little soapy water on the spot will produce a bubble - that's the bicycle repair way. Prevention is really important: I put a clean quilt or packing blanket on the floor to protect the mattress from anything that could puncture it: something sharp in the carpet, or a sliver or pin, etc, stuck between wood floor boards. If people will be going in and out of the room where the mattress is being used for more than one night, GET IT OFF THE FLOOR - either deflate and put in a corner, or upright it and lean against a wall. Don't let kids play on it, and keep pets off, too. Roll it up carefully when you put it away. The smaller you make it, the better. Be sure there is nothing left on the mattress as you roll it up - a ball point pen, for instance. Try to store it in a box, where no tools or sharp objects in the closet can get to it - Storing my big Intex mattress in the bag only led to a cut from something - I'll never know what - going right through the bag into the mattress. ANYTHING sharp will want to make a cut or puncture if it's in contact with the mattress.

A few days ago, it developed a leak at the end of one of those seams, running down the top (to make it look like tuck-and-roll). A split, at the half-rounded end, where the seam joins the rest of the bed. The bed did come w/ some patches, but no glue! What brand of PVC/silicone glue would work best? Or should I just go the suggestion of other videos & grab a bicycle patch kit?

Applying a patch advice: Make sure all the air bubbles are out. If you are using a clear patch, you can usually see these quite readily. If you are using a colored patch, you can usually see these if they are big. Try running your finger lightly across the patch to see if you can feel any small lumps. Regardless, you should presume there a few tiny air bubbles. To fix this, use a fingernail or spudger to work out the air bubbles from the center outwards. *apologies if this was already mentioned

What you are describing definitely sounds like a seam that has come loose. Unfortunately there is not a way to repair the seams on an air mattress. Sometimes depending on the extent of the seam tear you can sometimes flip the bed upside down and get some use out of it. That doesn't always work, but unfortunately is the only option we know of when a seam comes un-welded.
@InBetweenMen4 жыл бұрын
Question: I found my hole and of course as luck would have it, it's not in any location that any KZbin tutorial has an example of how to fix. It's not in any "easy" place, like a flat spot or even a curve, which is what every video uses as an example. No, mine is a hole right the corner where two seams meet. Where the vertical and horizontal seam meet on the corner location on the suede side. (Have a photo to show if there's any way to send to you for reference). Right in the 'T' seam where vertical and horizontal seams meet on the suede part, in the right corner between the head side and the right side (both suede). It's right up against the seam. And the seam is obviously a bit raised higher than the hole so I'm not sure how I can get a piece of duck tape over crazy glue over the hole because the seam will prevent the tape from being 100% flat and flush on the material. Also Idk how I can shave off the suede in such a difficult spot. Any advice?🤦🏻♂️

Ok so what if the hole is on top in the seams area? I have bought a lot of air mattresses in the last 5 years and they are the 22 inches high intex,not those that are what 5 or 6 inches high. I like to make sure my peoples are comfortable and the last last one I bought lasted almost 2 years until I went away for 2 weeks and came home to a mattress that had a hump in it because the seam came apart and now it has a pin hole. Why the pin hole always ends up in the seams.

How many hours does it take to pass an ear over every square inch of a mattress?

About half the battle is locating the leak(s). Wetting a hand and passing it around the exterior of a fully inflated air filled object works well to find those pesky small leaks.

Thanks! That's was really helpful. The whole was on the bottom side and found it simply by hearing.

Better if it's slightly inflated I think so that the drips and excess don't stick to the other side since the liquid tends to spill through especially for larger holes.

Not sure what the fuck you are babbling about. If you don't like your cheap inflatable mattress, then go and buy a proper bed.

Does/Will this work if your air mattress has a felt top covering.

I've never gotten a leak in the bottom of my air mattress it's always been at the seems until today and my dog stuck is nail right through the top of it. so as far as glue goes what is the best to use. because there was no glue that come with my patches.

@bookofachievers4406 жыл бұрын
This was really useless for me, Those steps to find the hole will only work if the hole is large enough, which in my case isn't. My mattress takes about 7 to 8 hours to loose air so the hole is obviously tiny.

I patched mine on the top where the flocking is, by using super glue GEL and then pressing a paper towel on to it. Allow that time to dry and apply another layer or two then tear away excess. It's not as pretty as a patch but who cares? The bed is covered with a sheet anyhow. Did the same on the sides where the seems come together, this seems to be another place holes commonly occur.

Can I use superglue as my adhesive or does it have to be a certain kind?
@sriharshacv77602 жыл бұрын
I wasted 40 minutes looking on the under side when the puncture was on the top side. In my case, I figured the hole by groping systematically. (I know how it is sounding but that is what I did.). I sealed the fuzzy side by removing the fuzz by using a sand paper first till I see the skin (Urgh. This is getting weirder).

If the air mattress holds the night but once u come back from work its lost a lot of air do u thinks it's a whole or the temperature change ?

It's true, we want to try and help that with this video but those Type B "Tear-Aid" brand patches will work great to fix the beds, that's what we use in all of our repairs.

I'm wondering if shoe goo and gorilla tape would do the trick as well. Worried about using Krazy glue or similar types of adhesive where if the material moves the glue is likely to crack. Any have any experiences with this?

Might have to sand down the hole I found in my mattress today as I'm still losing air. It's a 20 inch mattress so it has a bit of heft and I've rolled the thing around four or five times today trying to find where I'm losing air still. I don't feel anything from the current hole, but I just slapped another piece of adhesive over the first one, just in case. I rolled that bed like a Katamari ball and have yet to find another source of escaping air. I heard valves can also be weak and yet I still don't feel air from it. I'm miffed and I just know at 5AM yet again, I'm going ti be in a taco on the mattress. I so can't wait until I buy a proper bed next paycheck...I'm spending my days off troubleshooting my bed and can't even sleep in or take a nap because of it. Sleeping directly on the floor again might be a better option to this song and dance. For shame, this was supposed to be my guest bed once I was done with it. I have a Bestway mattress I got from Walmart. I loved that bed until today, lol.

Use soapy water to find the hole Just use super glue and baking soda, doesn't look good but works so well n super cheap. 2 3 drops of each and you are good to go
@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley3 жыл бұрын
@@kkhlufris I've already found the hole but even after sanding the spot down and applying the adhesive, then adhesive and tape, air still leaks out. I have zero cash until next Friday to buy super glue, lol! I've decided to just make a pallet on the floor and tough it out. I slept on the floor the first week I moved in, I can bear with it one more week.

Found the leak in less than one minute. Sanded the flock of the airbed. Now can see the hole in the mattress clearly. Also next to leak is another puncture without a leak that I have patched. Thank you Air Beds 4 less.com. You have customer for life!
