How to Find an Apartment In Seattle | Moving to Seattle or Attending UW Seattle

Happy Sunday - or whatever day you are watching this one. I made this video because I got a couple questions about how to apartment hunt in Seattle. I origionally intended for this video to be 5 minutes, but
it kinda grew from there. So I hope this is helpful for you. If you are a current Seattle resident or UW student, please comment down below how you found your first apartment. This video may be for new or
prospective Seattle residents, but the perspective of current residents is appreciated.

UW Freshman here, dining is very mixed here. None of the food is particularly high quality, definitely nothing home cooking can't blow out of the water. The food is usually alright, although nothing spectacular, with some dishes being nice and some being kinda bad, really depends I guess, would recommend the fries though, they're quite good when fresh. Also the dorms are interesting. They can be fun for a bit but keep in mind you're sharing with someone else, and since it's college that someone else may not be very great, I've heard a few horror stories, although admittedly my roommate is great. A nice thing about UW as well is that it's fairly open to niche stuff so you're likely to find a smaller group of people as long as you put yourself out there a little. Overall though I am glad I decided to come here despite the killer out of state tuition, the campus is beautiful, the city is amazing, and the experience is overall just great. Also PS, UW students get free public transit included in tuition ;)

Yeah, can totally relate to what happened. Relocated to Seattle from Portland for a new job. Only had 3 weeks to find my place and settled on n a place that met my requirements by about 80%. Definitely going to relocate again end of the lease.

I have a similar issue. I just used Ikea, but sometimes you can find good deals on Amazon or facebook marketplace. I otherwise avoid furniture stores cause I don't have space to ship it or move it over.

Love your videos! I’m also potentially moving from Chicago to Seattle. We’re there any huge adjustments for you and in your opinion which is the better city?

That’s exciting!!! There were several adjustments to make. The largest one is weather. Seattle doesn’t have the extremes that Chicago does. Summers can be warmer here, but also low humidity so in general, Seattle summers are nicer. Winters are also more pleasant. It is cloudier here, but it never really gets below 25 F here. Also spring happens in late February to Marc, so about 2 months earlier than in Chicago (I’m happy about that)! You’re also surrounded on most sides by mountains and have forests everywhere. In my opinion, Seattle has a much more beautiful area around it. Seattle is harder to physically drive through, but there is much less traffic so it kinda balances out. Just be prepared for some steep hills here and there. The demographics are very different. Chicago has more Hispanic, black, and middle eastern populations. Seattle is primarily white and Asian with a small Hispanic and black population. The biggest difference is most people like the outdoors here. And honestly, it’s actually really fun to go hiking each weekend or just drive around the mountains. Overall, I like Seattle more and am very happy here. But I will say, Chicago has a much more beautiful downtown and better food options. Chicago will always be a special place for me, but I like Seattle more because of the natural beauty and I feel like I have a healthier lifestyle here.

How do u like Seattle compared to living in Chicago and California ?

This is a great question! Hope my answer won't be too long haha. So I definitely like Seattle more than Chicago. Chicago has a more beautiful downtown (taller buildings and more famous for it's downtown), but Seattle is surrounded by moutains and has more to do in the area (in my opinoin). Also, in general, I like Seattle more than California as well, but I will admit that I think San Francisco is in an equally beautiful area with better weather, so it gets a slight edge. The main reason I didn't want to return to northern california is that it is too expensive and has too many people without the best intrastructure for those people (this causes traffic, polution, etc). To sum it all up, in my opinoin: Seattle > California > Chicago, but San Francisco > Seattle > Chicago. But it isn't fair to judge cause I have great memories in each city and it is great to live in either city (except Chicago in the winter haha)

Would you say west lake union is a good place to live in?

I believe so. It is a beautiful area and generally has a great view of the lake. When moving to Seattle that was one of the areas I considered moving to. Plus if you're a very active person, it has some of the best places for biking and running nearby
