The spouse in your story hadn't given up, she actually found her purpose was exactly that, taking care and raising her family. That's a great purpose in life.

I sense what the system is trying to purpose me as (forcing me to be a robotic worker, with constant corporate state surveillance)... No thanks, I'd rather do nothing, and that's EXACTLY what I will do.

Raising a family has been the biggest adventure of my life & I'm only 16 years into it. So much more ahead! That said, when my family want to chill at home, & I seek nature walks or time outdoors/at gigs or whatever, I get out there on my own sometimes. As long as we all get some balance. I love that we are all following our own paths. We have our own interests. This way of being can mean that we are sometimes less available to other (extended) family members as they'd like, but hey ho.

The thing about choosing "raising a family" as one's "life's purpose" is that kids grow up and move out, and you can't count on them to maintain a relationship with you forever. That's certainly been my experience. Any purpose that has a known expiration date, or whose lifespan depends on the fickle loyalties of other humans, is inherently unstable.
@naomihardingart1827
@naomihardingart1827 23 күн бұрын
@jason_v12345 I see what you mean. I understand. & your notion has had a place at the back of my mind. However, my purpose does not have a known expiration date since raising a family develops many soft skills that are transferable to the wider community & the development of my own soul. Also, within raising a family, We each have space to be on our own separate paths. I know things will change a lot. I hope to remain in contact with my family, but I fully know that I have no control over that at all. I can try to be a compassionate, understanding, authentic person who celebrates authenticity in others, but ultimately, it will be their choice how much contact we have once they are adults. I'm at peace with that. I have many interests & hobbies to keep me busy. I realise that these may be in my future more than my children will. I imagine joining clubs, volunteering, exercising, making things, learning, etc. when I have more time. But for now, they are my beloved priority. ❤️

I'm currently in my mid-30s, brother, and only recently became able to truly find myself after distancing my life from my narcissistic mother and developing my mental, physical, and emotional health. I'm trying to be the best man I can be. Recently found God again through science and logic. It's been a wild journey, and it isn't over yet.
@JayBlackthorne
@JayBlackthorne 24 күн бұрын
If science and logic led you to find god, you haven't been applying science and logic correctly.
@PeterResponsible
@PeterResponsible 23 күн бұрын
@@JayBlackthorneyet here you are telling him this without even asking what he means by "god". Not scientific either. Science has actually plenty in common with spirituality if you don't hold too tightly to very narrow definitions. It's been the same for me.
@darklordvadermort
@darklordvadermort 23 күн бұрын
@@PeterResponsible science is basically a subset of math which is the art of dealing with narrow definitions lol, and narrowing as much as possible (in particular it's a couple of algorithms you can use to update beliefs based on evidence, and algorithms=math, as far as the curry howard correspondence is concerned)
@PeterResponsible
@PeterResponsible 23 күн бұрын
@@darklordvadermort See, we don't even agree on what science is. To me, science is about first having a hypothesis, then observing it to see if it's true or false, then coming up with additional hypotheses based on what you've learned. Key elements are curiosity (to fight ego) and skepticism (to fight dogma / blind beliefs). Math is just one way to do science but it's not the only one. There is no proof that science is a subset of math, this is a hypothesis. Some people believe that the universe is also built on math which is also just a hypothesis. With our current means (at the moment), there is no way to prove that either one is true or not, and you need a falsifiable hypothesis to do proper scientific method. So unless we figure out how to decisively prove one or the other, there is no point in arguing for either side. My point was that if you take curiosity and skepticism and apply it to religion and sprituality, you sure can find a lot and can even call it a god. Thinking something is true without evidence is faith. If you have faith, then that's your personal religion. There's plenty of dogma in academia and that's not scientific even if they call it science. Faith in absence of god without evidence is just as unscientific as faith in his presence without evidence.
@darklordvadermort
@darklordvadermort 23 күн бұрын
@@PeterResponsible the science aka hypothesis testing you describe is just an algorithm there are various ways to infer causation from data (which are also algorithms). if what makes "God" interesting is infinity, well, math has quite a lot to say about infinity. if we conceptualize God as some kind of infinite extension of what is human then you've just described a turing machine with an infinitely long tape, and the vast majority (effectively 100%) of programs it runs/thoughts it has would be completely incomprehensible to us by definition, so it's kind of a useless thing practically speaking.

I test for my first brown belt this weekend, wish me luck! My path always included some kind of martial arts, and it does hurt to ignore your calling. Weight lifting is also a kind of art, but I really benefit from the group learning in the dojo. I returned to Karate to get my black belt before 40. Thanks for sharing your story about your psychedelic trip, that's pretty cool and I hope I can go on a spiritual journey like that too.

If only there was enough room in this box lol. I really do need to write a book. My family is full of American history, mostly native, and my whole life has been an adventure from Miami Beach to Crested Butte horse ranches to Missoula and Dead tours early 90s and still is and truckin at 54. From pilot to college ball at Florida. Losing 2 fingers to breaking my C7 jumping in the big Blackfoot and almost floating away. I'm past 9 lives and a serial entrepreneur from log homes to trucking. Actually been in Vegas this winter expanding now in Boise heading home to CoeurD'Alene for summer. I finally figured out I'm a helper like most of my dads native side so I'm helping people best I can with latest adventure preparing for the disruption.

I know it’s completely off this channel but the best example of a human being living his true self in a way that his artistry is so connecting and extremely shining is the artist Ren- especially his song Hi Ren- it inspired me to go on that journey- at least for me it sparked something inside me and i know a few people also reacted that way to him. I guess its like u said the people who are on their journey and live it authentically are so inspiring and can definitely move something in yourself

Thank you! I've been thinking about this a lot lately. You asked "why?" & I wondered "when? ". And now for some AI amusements. From Google. Still. Google wondered if I had any questions about your video? Me:" When is the best time in your life to eat rocks?" Google:"Some say that eating rocks can be good for you, but only the right ones. Breakfast cereals often contain minerals from rocks, such as iron, zinc, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium, which are important for keeping the body healthy. Geologists have even recommended eating at least one small rock per day. Here are some other ways rocks can be consumed throughout life:...etc. Etc" I hope it was a good walk. It was a good talk!😊

This helped me in a way that makes me uncomfortable. Over the last few years I have been bombarded with signs that I am not on my path, I believe I have known this to be true for decades. I fear my financial consequences should I leave my current time/labor for money trade for something more in alignment with what brings me joy. Monetizing this could be a challenge that takes more time than my savings will allow. I feel I must trust the universe and dive in for my own mental health, yet even with permission from my spouse I hesitate. It feels like quite a pickle.

You can start small until you feel more confident that you can launch it. There are a lot of things you don't know, so it's wise to get some data first and then you KNOW what it will take, how much savings you need, etc If you take small steps then you won't have quite as big a jump as before

Great channel and great episode as always. I felt bad when you were talking about being a writer as you're calling in life. You probably worked incredibly hard to get to the point where you could write something that people actually wanted to read, and now ChatGPT can do it all better than you and most other human beings. That kind of sucks. I'm a musician, and we won't need any more of them soon, either...

Sick tattoo! Good explanation of purpose, but you didn’t really explain any actionable things on how to find it, just how you found yours after your divorce/trip. Right now I am definitely disengaged. It’s to the point where I get upset seeing other people being passionate and engaging with their life’s purpose because it reminds me of my lack of one. It sucks being bitter. I’m still young so I hope I can find my purpose eventually. Thanks for the video, cheers.
