Appreciate the last part about recognizing the fact scouting places means you’ll hit dead ends. I’ve spend spring making 8-10 trips to new areas in hopes of getting a good new spot + catching fish. Doing both same trip is hard, and I’ve had re frame my mindset to “this is about scouting, not about fishing”. Looking at the water, area, access, etc. Thanks for the video and tips! Helpful!

Another cool thing you can do when scouting for bridges and near by roads is street view. It's a good way to see the water with another perspective.

My first year river fishing and it actually blows my mind how dynamic it is. Stacked up fish one day, dead section of water the next. I think I enjoy it so much because of how you connect with everything around you, especially when wading. Man wading is fun. No electronics, just basic information like flow, water temperature and time of year to go off of. It's just me against the fish, a battle of wits.

OnX is a great tool to figure what is private and what is public. It also gives the landonwers names on private ground.

Just watched this video and used the tactics Adam showed off. Found some nice places in the Eastern Sierras to check out. Marked them all up in my new Fishing Spots map. When are you guys gonna come out and take on some real fishing? The Sierras are the place to be. You've got alpine lakes, desert streams and plenty of in between out here. I'm telling you, the Owen's River will make you happy. Upper, or Lower. Rock Creek is amazing. Heck, go skiing in Mammoth for a winter trip. It's all out here in California.

May be a stupid question, but after you find a spot and float down the river, how do you get back to the truck? Are you paddling or motoring back up to the put-in?

Self-guided trips are the ticket! Takes a little effort up front, but it opens up so many possibilities. We were actually guests on a podcast to talk about some of the methods that we use to find water to fish. Figured if people were watching this video they may find it interesting and useful so here is the link - www.bugsandbeardspodcast.com/episodes/episode-16-diy-fishing-trips-with-backyard-angling . Great stuff as usual by the way. Keep it up!

I am using the maps technique on a river not far from me. I wanted to know your thoughts on pointing out other features of the rivers such as falls, rapids, bank structures. Also when on the river do you add to your maps. Things like strainers, fish caught, kayak hatches, low water stretches and other things that you might want to be reminded of.
