Hi, regards to tap 💦... road tripped from south to north of Norway and back down through Sweden Danemark Germany and across France to Brittany. That was a two month trip 14000km on only local tap water🤗... apart from the odd bottle that is! Same goes for Spain and Portugal for 5 weeks and again on a uk tour including the whole of Ireland for 5 weeks. Water from taps just isn’t an issue! And one tip for all you wild campers who have trouble finding a tap ... carry a flexible water container for camping and visit a village cemetery in time of need🤔

I've used a lot of aires in France, also camp in the village square while I'm renovating my house and the mayor's secretary made sure I could get a shower from time to time. A lot of villages in France have a parking near the bar that empties about 11, and if you ask, you might get told you're fine to stay there. I'd add, if you get to a place you selected and anything makes you feel uneasy, find another spot and sleep easy. BTW for mini-campers, lots of French villages in Limousin, even really small ones, have a public WC open roughly Easter to November in most cases, and it's close to the car park.

Hi Kat, another great video, we’ve caravanned in the UK for 20 yrs and only use bottled water for the kettle, approx £1 for 5 litres from all supermarkets. We find that even on CMC ( caravan & Motorhome cub) sites the water can taste of plastic pipes. The apps you have shown have been really useful for us, we will be getting our new MH within the next month, Yipeeeeeee! 😎

Take a look at France Passion for free camping in France, mostly at vineyards and farms. In UK there is Britstops, which is mostly pubs. I believe there are similar schemes in other European countries. Great for overnight stops.

Camping in vineyards sounds amazing... and dangerous!! :) Thanks for the info.

Hi, Great information, but just a comment about water. We spent 12 months touring around Europe & UK. We used nothing but tap water for everything including drinking and had no problems.

Good news. I know most places are absolutely fine, but we know several people who have had an issue and unfortunately it's not easy to tell. Where did you go on your tour?

You can check all the water quality stuff on the internet though, the EU has pretty strict regulations for testing it etc. and lists it all on their website. If you take Denmark (my country) as an example, there are stricter rules on tap water than on bottled water. It's not that bottled water isn't safe, it's the same as everywhere else but it's that tap water is insanely regulated. At the same time tap water is obviously a hell of a lot cheaper as well as bottled water is considered a "luxury" here or a "Crap, I forgot to bring some water to the beach." type of stuff. We use tap water for everything in Denmark so bottled water really isn't much of a thing here, it exists of course but it's like buying a less interesting soft drink really.

Good info. We travelled in our motorhome around Europe in the 90s and used the water provided on the campsites and never had any issues. Didn't have any web or internet in those days - used to refer to books or judgement!

Camp 4 night is indeed far better as it has not only camp sites but also official "stellplatz" (parking spots ) also segregated into day and nicht time spots as well as legal overnight parking options as long as you do not setup chairs and dining outside etc. i.e. do not camp but just stay/sleep overnight!

Really? Small world! Did you enjoy your trip? Any tips/ places to see?
@joncarver22756 жыл бұрын
Plenty, the first one is dont listen to the wife ! (read review) and remembering if cycling into Switzerland from there then ensure you take passport as some customs are open and some arent. The big shopping centre is headache inducing. If i remember rightly along the path were signs as to how far you were in equivelent from the sun. So the sun was Basel then you came across Mercury venus earth mars etc at the same gaps. Very flat journey into Basel, there is also another aire next to dam but over in Germany here 47°39'37.8"N 7°31'14.6"E and Kembs had what looked like a really good aire but they had a motorised kart race closing the village for the day. Going anywhere near here and not doing the Alsace wine route paying particular attention to Eguishem is a major mistake if time allows. If travelling through Switzerland remember Vignette, The road down from Gex towards Geneva has amazing views. Mont Blanc in the distance. Also, if time cascades du Herrison are not a million miles away and basically wild camp anywhere around all the lakes there and fill up with free water at Clairveaux Happy travels

Our first trip in our MH was wilding near home. I was worried the Lindsay would not get on with it. She was asleep before me and loved it. I find it useful to view on Google Maps and/or Street View as well after finding a spot on the web. Did not know that site either :-) Thanks great video.

Thanks- pleased you enjoyed it and glad Lindsay loved it- we prefer it so much more to big campsites. Street view is a great idea- might try that!

Not drinking water in Europe? In the south perhaps, but in the northern European countries its completely safe!
@WanderingBird5 жыл бұрын
Most of the time yes- but it was Scotland where the water was contaminated, so make sure before you drink.

Amazing! I love Switzerland. Take a look on our blog wandering-bird.com - there are a couple of brilliant places we visited last year which we highly recommend. Also, if it's feasible you can't beat wild camping in a layby in the Alps. It's just magic. Have a great trip!

Hi many thanks for your reply, we will certainly do our best to have a great trip! I see on your present tour you are going to Norway. Went there myself a few times back in the 80's. If you are going as far north as Trondheim, make sure you get your passports stamped at Hell Station! Its about 20Km east of Trondheim up the E6 - You'll never be quite the same again!!!!! Enjoys guys - Dude

Thanks Bill- we generally prefer the smaller sites/ camping places. We're still confined to school holidays for the next year- and we're seeing friends along the route too which makes it doubly complicated as we're not sure whether we're going North- South or the other way yet! But will let you know for sure. 👍
