so im new, about 80 hours played in VR chat and about 90 of those hours was searching through avatars looking for a decent good performing male avi to use as a normal day to day face. and i still havnt found one im happy with. found lots of female avis with good performance that have color changing glowing hair and outfits, plus some fun dances, perfect for clubbing, but no guys yet on that same level. ive watched several starting vids to get a grasp on how to get started and how to handle the interface and settings, your the first to show off the additional menu behind the search box, didnt even know that was there lol. gonna abuse the heck out of that. because of the time it takes to dig through so many avis ive seen maybe 10 non avi worlds, and 4 of them i searched for directly, like sign language stuff to practice how to use the controller genstures because so many avis have facial expressions tied to them most of my reason to get on vr chat is i like dance/techno music but i live in the boonies where there is only bars which i hate going to (mostly country music) and i was in the army stationed in Hawaii where there was non stop places to go anytime of day. i miss it, not so much the clubbing, but the music and atmosphere. also i need places to destress and relax and figured VR chat would be a good place because i can have private rooms to myself.

Yeah it's hard to find good male avis for sure. It's a very common problem I've heard over the years. I'm glad I could help in other ways though! I'm not sure if you're already aware but there's a big rave scene in VRChat, tons of awesome performers and DJs and venues. I'm not really big into it so I couldn't unfortunately tell you how to get into it but look and ask around. It's crazy what people are able to pull off in VR raves :)

I want to give love to a special twist on an old favorite for worldhoppers: user Blue Cat has a variant of the World Repository portal hub called World Repository Daily Picks! It cycles between a nice slice of the bigger options in the full world without being near as overwhelming. -- I try to collect worlds under broad "genres" in my homeworld VRChat World Genre Tours (recently added some Quest-supporting playlists from Explore VRChat users!) but BC updates a lot more frequently than I have bandwidth to do, since mine is mostly what I take my non-VRC friends through! Also photography galleries that credit worlds! Shoutouts to the Re:Collection 2 and the first one I think by rocksuch and Enter. by Yzha! Also wip on a bigger push for it after the holidays but there's one I recently helped coordinate to completion from the Ancients community (under user Dangleberry). o7 Hopefully that helps people like I'm sure this video will! Excellent one-stop shop for showing this to new players.

I have a hard time making friends. So even if i find a world i enjoy, I have a hard time finding people im comfortable talking to!! It feels like im in middle school again drifting around..

I feel this! You can't really go to a world with the intent to find friends, it's moreso you need to go to groups and events. Find people who share your values and interests. If you're just trying to meet people in general, I find game worlds to be the best for that. You can get into character, roleplay, etc

the events are all made for people to buy stuff.. that's lame. I mean I get people want money for their work, but an event made for you to spent money 100% for that is not cool Most avatar worlds have extremely high complexity avatars that look ridiculous. Complex 7 and organism look pretty cool to explore!- I use the search bar a lot. it is funny the fact that i also search for liminal. Usually most places are deserted.

The cool thing with the event worlds though is it's not JUST about buying stuff. It's like going to a convention. There will be people selling assets for avatars and worlds, or more corporate stuff to buy IRL, but there's also tons of activities in those worlds, cool designed worlds, mini games, sample avatars you can play around with, and it's a social opportunity to meet other people exploring them. My personal favorite is VKet, as they have a Summer and Winter VKet that have some really breathtaking worlds, but they also have a Music VKet and Comic VKet where you can sample some really great tunes and comics! Stay curious and keep exploring, my friend!

i understand where you are coming from but you should just trycand look arround the world at some of the things you can buy even if you dont want to buy anything some of the stuff you can find is pretty cool. now i do wish vket got more of the gumroad crowd as i dont like a lot of the booth style of assets but maybe in the furture they will drag some of that in witch would be really cool.
