Hoping you can answer two questions… I always hear contradicting info in regard to the sun. Find where the lake will get the most sun and go there. I also hear crappie are always looking for the shadow. That’s why you find them schooled up under docks. Is there a right answer? Second question, does any know if crappie like there face in the wind, away, or perpendicular? Is this even a question that has a most common answer? Thanks for the help and the show!

Thank you for the questions. I’ll look for the most sunlight during the pre-spawn season. Which is usually the northern part of the lake. I believe Crappie look for a shadow‘s for a couple reasons one is for safety, one is ambush point, and also to get out of the heat. Last question I don’t think it’s open and closed answer due to the fact that there’s too many variables that could be going on during that time. I have called him fishing into the wind and then gone with the win as well so

“Knowledge and knowing can hurt you sometimes on a lake because you know to much, and you don’t take no chances of looking for new stuff.” That might be the best advice I could have gotten. Thank you

water temp has very little to do with crappie movements. also the molecules of water mix so much, the top of the water column and middle is basically the same temp., I have measured the water temps with a sinking thermometer several times thru the years and seasons and rarely will u have a differential of more than 3 degrees, all the way down to 60 ft. nutrient rich water and oxygen levels as well as uv light penetration are key. crappie dont move up or down in the water column because of temp, its because of the light penetration. crappie dont like bright light. also crappie move up and down in the water column due to the up and down movement of plankton., which the shad are feeding on.
