Excellent video. One of the best takeaways from this video is the use of a dehooker. They no doubt reduce fish mortality and keep your boat slime free and cleaner.

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Capt Mike another another great video. About releasing small mahi I don’t know how many I have injured as I tried different ways to release them but your release technic with the long dehooker is a revelation...thank you you have have done a public service my friend...

Another GREAT video! Protect our fisheries by great practices and conservation as demonstrated in this video. Thanks Captain Mike! Obviously Triple Tail (I know I'm late, I gotta work!) Great information and detail! I too love to share my catch with "shore people" to spread the love. Have you ever considered taking Victor fishing with you? That'd really be an awesome video. Peace & Love, Slimy Thumbs Up!

HI there from NZ. Great instructional video. It's a TRIPLE TAIL. I have actually learned that from watching another Florida fishing video. We don't have Mahi Mahi where I am from. But my friend caught a big bull Mahi Mahi in Rarotonga a few months ago. He gave me some to try.

6:13 thanks for mentioning the importance of not touching fish that you are planning to release. I see so many KZbin fishing channels of guys doing catch and release but apparently don't understand the impact of touching the fish... especially for a long period (selfi time) not using net, circle hook, barbless hook.

You throw out a lot of useful information for people like me. Looking to buy a boat and been learning everyday. I use to fish in Bal Harbor in the inlet were you stopped to give the guy the Mahi. That's pretty nice gesture. I'm sure he appreciated that. Well Done. Shawn Fort Lauderdale
