You do require a flatbed to tow. Getting it into neutral is important so that you can roll it ONTO a flatbed, but towing it in neutral can damage the engine as no lubricant is being pumped through the system.

Great video. Glad I own a 2011 Odyssey EX-L that still uses a regular key that cost $268 to replace! Yes, the next vehicle will be a Toyota! (No timing belts, no stupid way of putting a car in neutral with zero power, cheaper replacement parts, etc.)

Thank you for posting this helpful video! I have a 2022 honda accord 2.0 liter sport with push buttons for shifting the transmission from gear to gear, like your odyssey. I ended up finding my transmission neutral switch on the same side of the motor, (driver side) but I had to remove the air cleaner box/ducting and some other brackets and crap to get to it. Ridiculous!!! Just to put the damn car in neutral! Are you kidding me?!?! Did you know that even if you have power at the battery, you STILL can't shift the car into neutral with the button on the center console, if the car isn't running... Terrible engineering Honda!!

@@vikgardella Once I got all of the crap out of the way that is above the transmission neutral switch, I was able to turn the switch with regular channel lock pliers.

For anyone wondering it's a temporary mechanism. You turn counter clockwise. It will feel like a 15 degree angle. You must continue to hold it. As soon as you let go it will go back to neutral.

I’ll have to take a look at my 2016 Pilot. Didn’t know you could do this (neither did my dealership mechanic). That you can’t put it into neutral always seems like a major design flaw. This method at least makes it possible, albeit complicated. My car broke down at a busy intersection (because of the POS auto idle off) and we could figure out how to put it in neutral to move it. The cop was not amused, but he couldn’t figure it out either.

This is just for the 9-speed 2018-2019 Honda ODY's only. It is not located in same location for all the 10-speed transmission.

I cannot locate mine in my 2019 Touring with 10 speed. I guess yours is 9 speed. However, thanks for posting good info.

Look on top of your transmission. You may have a different model transmission since honda used more than one. Check your manual if you have it for emergency roadside features.

For my 2016 Odyssey, I found a little panel on the shifter to take out and jam the key into. Hold it in while you switch to neutral. In my case, the steering wheel was completely locked - not just lack of power steering so I ended up rolling down just far enough to block the sidewalk, get my car out of the garage and drive it through the front yard and down off the curb. Did not like the sound that occurred there to my dear FRS, but no fluid leaking or CEL or anything. What a mess. WHERE ARE MY VAN KEYS? 🤬

I used a small adjustable wrench. Small channel locks works great as well for anyone with limited tools

Yes, could someone please give the actual name of Honda’s tool for this? I realize you can use a wrench, but you have to remove some covers to get down in there. If there’s a tool with a long shaft, you could do it much quicker and easier.
