The problem is not that traditional martial arts are bad at all, its the individuals who teache with incomplete training or understanding. Many of the martial arts developed feom battle/fighting necessity. Its the modern practitioner who doesn’t understand combat/fighting that is the problem. Not the martial art.

I’ve practiced baji, pigua, xingyi for 9 years and , Chen Taiji and bagua for a total of of 3 years in china and when I moved home I practiced kuyokushin for half year before corona started. My internal training were so important for my fighting in my karate training.

I totally agree. That has also been my experience. I also practiced Bagua, Baji and Tong Bei, and the knowledge of internal alignments/ body structure, postures, sinking, and relaxed release of power, made a tremendous impact and enhancement in my ability in Muay Thai, Boxing and the Filipino Martial Arts.

@@fullcontactconcepts9239 tongbei my teacher only taught me basics, which were more than enough according to him , I still do these body conditioning movements till these day. I do forgot to mention that daily zhan zhuang training is also really important . That keeps my sharp in my work too …

@@fullcontactconcepts9239 most people don’t understand the relaxed power you mention, they think relaxed and weak are the same. I love the feeling when you hit somebody their pain doesn’t stay on the surface but penetrates.

@@5324TuiG Very true. There is a misconception that makes many people interpret "relaxed"as if it means to be totally limp and overtly soft. The ability to use a relaxed structure that allows full body power connected from the ground and through the alignment of joints is a game changer. It has a different kind of effect when striking the opponent. They have to feel it 😁

Martial Spot is very different from Martial Combat. Everything changes psychological and then physically when all of a sudden fighting becomes about life and death, instead of a gladiator test of skilll where risk of death is very low

Yes, it is a totally different psychological state that can change physical reaction instantly.

Thank you for highlighting this concept @ 5:00 Here's a question, if there are methods to train for optimal martial sport, then are there methods to train for martial combat? Look into the Jutsu arts that continued to train during the out law of martial arts in Japan (Meiji). Which arts survived with combat experience intact?
