@@myeyesaredrymylove Lol! Even a child can bloody a friend's nose. However, muay boran is not efficient compared to modern sport muaythai. In striking martial art, distance and fight rhythm (timing) are two most important factors. Muay boran training system doesn't give you these.

25 Years ago muaythai camps did not open door to non fighters. Things have changed. Fairtex was the pioneer in opening door to interested foreign muaythai students. To learn proper muaythai, it's best to come to Thailand. There are several good camps all over the country that train foreigners. My recommendation is to look for camp that are owned by a Thai, preferably an exfighter, that prepare successful professional fighters. Most of these camp owners love muaythai, and appreciate foreign students who will promote muaythai to the world. They will teach every thing they teach their fighters, Nothing is kept secret. Regretfully, most foreign owned camps charge very high fees. I would not recommend any. As for muayt boran aka ancient muaythai, if you want real efficient fighting system, shy away from these.

Is this more of a frame or a punch?
@fullcontactconcepts9239
@fullcontactconcepts9239 Ай бұрын
It's both since you enter with your forearm cutting over the opponent's forearm and riding up to the face, and your forearm will have a frame from a slight bend at your elbow. The punch/frame is powered by the body. Basically you are entering with a frame that rides the forearm to hit
@Abrightdivinelight

Hi Mike, at the 10 minutes Mark you're discussing the elbow and kicks. I remember when I first broke my foot in training. Doing roundhouse kicks, following knees from a neck clinch. Stepping to and turning my partner round whilst holding their neck, spinning and releasing them, quickly followed by a hard round kick onto two pads. My foot went round the pad and hit the guys elbow. My shin kick was sound but my foot was knackered. He didn't tuck his elbow in behind the pad. My foot went purple and black in the days after. for sure broken and struggling to walk. Some weeks later he kicked my elbow in the same way. He ruined his foot too. The foot is no match for the elbow. It's all fun until it's not fun! Lol!

You take angle from outside what about from.inside ? And how to anticipate his jab comin in ?
@fullcontactconcepts9239
@fullcontactconcepts9239 2 ай бұрын
It is an outside technique since it uses the forward pressure to close the opponent's arm into his center. Anticipation of the jab comes from a variety of factors including the opponent's telegraphic movements, rhythm of his jab, and your ability to stay at the fighting measure. In that fighting measure you can control the delivery of many techniques because you are standing one step further than you can touch his chin with your jab. This is done to control distance and make it easier for you to hit the opponent because he feels he his far from reaching you and will step forward to hit you.

@athenry
@athenry Ай бұрын
Was it a warning for "pushing"? Or for "no elbow strikes"? Because a boxing ref may interpret this move as something like that. I assume that was amateur boxing? It's basically a variation of the long guard. You would have to make it QUICK so it looks more like a jab of sorts. Half of boxing is about dealing with the referees. :)
@fullcontactconcepts9239
@fullcontactconcepts9239 Ай бұрын
@@athenry I agree. This is also called a cutting punch. It's like punching the punch but you slightly angle 45 and your punch enters and slides from the opponent's forearm up to the face. Always good when the referee is on the other side.

My original instructor kept telling me to stop the Judo moves for my first 4 years in Kenpo. He said there was no Judo in Kenpo. Our head instructor, and direct student of Mr. Parker, would praise my use of Judo whenever he held a seminar in our dojo. I could see it throughout the whole system, but because our head instructor hadn't taught it to Sensei yet, Sensei assumed it wasn't allowed. Doesn't make sense that Judo wouldn't be allowed in such an inclusive style. In an online video, our head instructor said he had a discussion with Mr. Parker about Judo because both of them had Black Belts in Judo. Be patient...have an open mind.

That depends on what school you go to, I think. Not true of our local Kenpo school.

I'm assuming this doesn't pertain to someone who knows how to work a clinch

There are many people that don't know to do this with or without clinch experience. I am only providing this as a basic knowledge that should be included at the appropriate time during clinch work.

Mr. Soto, I really enjoyed your interview and your actual knowledge of Kenpo and it's history. You are very insightful regarding both Ed Parker and Jeff Speakman and I enjoyed your positive approach to describing kenpo. Many interviews on any martial art tend to tear down other systems or styles in an apparent effort to build their own personal style. I believe most martial arts have many positive aspects and truth be told, when egos and commerce get involved, sadly the worst at times comes out. Salute !!
