Thanks for laying out these tips in a simple easy-to-digest manner! Sure there probably details I am too paranoid about that can't be addressed in 10 minutes, but this is great for letting me know the main concepts and where to start learning about this!

Thank you for touching on referrals! I’ve asked former bosses and group leads I’ve worked with for referrals and I usually make sure they are in management-type roles too. My referrals have gotten me call backs, phone and in-person (Zoom call) interviews. Referrals are just as important as the resume and cover letter.

The glasses look so good and comfty on you, Mayuko. After seeing your video, I ordered a pair for myself. I'm pretty picky on frames and tend to buy maui jim for my prescription sunglasses, so I hope these are just as good. I strangely trust you on things you endorse, but haven't gotten anything on your list yet. Hope my glasses don't disappoint!

The company I work for has a referral candidate pool. We can upload resumes of people we refer, no questions about how we know them. It's up to the company to make sure they fit the role they decide to interview them for.

They want PhD graduates to do Copy/Paste jobs. Then 2 years later that is all you can do because the technology has moved on. The Copy/Paste jobs do not pay enough to stay ahead on the curve of knowledge. (When it comes to hiring they want top of the shelf products sold for pennies, unless, you are one of the insiders. Then you get a job where you do next to nothing for insane amount of money.) IN THE 21-ST CENTURY WE STILL LIVE IN A CLASS SOCIETY.

Joining a company you love in a lower-leveled position like Support and working your way via connections and consistent work is definitely a viable path from my experience! Took a little longer for me to get to a SWE position, but I didn't have to mention O(n) even once in my final interview which was nice :D

how did you get your start in tech? (asking as someone learning javascript, libraries and frameworks, HTML, CSS, etc)
@anon343
@anon343 2 жыл бұрын
@@marcofernstaedt8179 I did a business degree, whilst doing that I studied python, C++ and got cybersecurity and networking certs. Then I got a job at a small company by basically persuading them I could save them money by replacing some of their processes with python and virtualising a few systems. After a while there I moved properly into tech. There is no one way to get into tech, you just need to be passionate and have the paperwork to back that passion up :) For you, lots of software houses will take frontend engineers, or go to a small company where you can play web admin for a bit to get your "2 years experience". After you have 2 years experience in tech the glass ceiling is smashed open a bit.

Hi mayuko, I'm your silent subscriber and watching your new content always. it is my first time I think to post a comment on your video. but I'm a web and mobile developer using python, kotlin and swift. but lack of knowledge regarding with algorithm I just know how to code with intensive understanding. but when It comes to algorithm question like binary trees then my mindset is lack of idea and understanding. how would the company will know that I'm good in programming if I don't know how to solve some basic algorithm test?

can I get some advice? I interned this summer and got a return offer but I am not able to start full time until 6 months post grad. What can I do during the 6 months? would it look bad if I only worked at another company for 6 months and then went to my job with the offer? should I look for a 6 month contract?
@joesofly14

Working for a company for 6 months and then going directly to another job doesn’t look bad at all. If anything add a little more depth to your resume. Do whatever best for your career and don’t care what others think in the process!

The main hurdle to get a job in my opinion is live coding skills in the interview. If you're comfortable writing code for the requirements of the employer you're in. Any others skills are 2nd class citizens. At the end of day. Your magic skills is coding with experience. 😸🌚
