I've checked back this channel so many times. During stressful tech interviews, this used to be my go-to. Now, there are no uploads 😢

Great to see that innovation may be on the rise in Japan. In the 80s and 90s, my observation was that Japanese software was very much focused on control systems for machines and consumer products. clearly, the bigger tech players missed the opportunity to understand what investment into operating systems could open up for them. I understand that Fujitsu has a go at developing an OS that could be widely used in japan, but I'm not sure what happened to this. In the 80s and 90s consumer products only had incremental development, and the domestic market seemed to be subsidising corporates moving into foreign markets. Why do something revolutionary, when you could sell basically the same product many times over in the local market. I also felt that Japan's corporates remained very feudalistic - way too much time was spent on shoring up market share and stock value, while also acquiring cross shareholding in your competitors. this kind of behaviour is the antithesis of innovation. I was told many years ago now, that MITI had determined that 5% of graduates needed to be 'Hot House' Kids' to keep Japan's economy relative to the outside world. These graduates were allowed to be more creative and innovative than your typical student entering the corporate work force. I take this to mean that Hot House kids were encouraged to use top-down thinking, while the rest of Japan's youth were corralled into bottom-up thinking environments

I was a marine, I had a criminology degree and am now a teacher. 2 months ago, I decided to start learning coding. I hope to be better in a year. I do this not to change my career but to supplement my current skill.

Burn out is physiologic: poor sleep, stress, port diet and exercise and toxic work environment all accumulate overtime to create disease in the body and mind. And both are integrated.

I learned a lot from you Mayuko and missed your videos. Please keep uploading more contents. you remember sharing a guideline to break into tech, the way of negotiating salary? Before joining university I learned ds, algo by solving leetcode, worked hard on my vulnerable skills and eventually secured SWE II role at a startup at UK 8 months ago. Now I'm studying part time and working full-time (hybrid) and I'm immensely grateful for the help I've received from you transparently.
