Slow down, take smaller steps, break in new heels around the house before the day you intend to wear them outside. And of course, heel-toe, heel-toe. But *the* most important thing to remember: take smaller steps. I say this as a 39 year old Londoner who wears heels to work every day, my mother from London always wore heels to the office every day and her mother who was a hair dresser working in London wearing heels to work every day. Same advice I've given to my daughter wearing heels to events starting 13.
@meowmeowcutekitty81765 жыл бұрын
I find it becomes less painful overtime. I think the pain is always there, but it is something your body gets used to. If you get good quality shoes, they are usually less painful because the insole has padding and is usually leather. If you want to wear stilettos, having a platform also helps with pain.

I ran a shoe store for 8 years and the "after 5pm rule" is spot on . I told that to people constantly ! Buy shoe when your feet are swollen from the day. And if you can, ALWAYS buy a 1/2 size bigger to be able to put gel cushions on the front. As for high heels, NEVER EVER believe a sales assistant that tells you they'll stretch if they're too tight. They will never stretch enough to be comfortable !

There is also something else I noticed with high heel shoes: the sole of the shoe should not be 45 degrees from ball of the foot to the heel. It should look like you would stand on your tip toes that way the shoe will support your arch. Compare shoes from 1930s and today, look at them from the side. The 1930s shoes are much better for your feet.

I am so happy to see a podiatrist wearing heels herself, so that people can finally stop saying (lying!) that heels are bad for you and/or hurt. Some people have been telling me my whole life to stop wearing heels because they supposedly hurt my back (lies, all lies!). Two years ago I had a tendon tear in my foot and people kept saying I must stop wearing heels, and I did for a while (when it still hurt wearing sneakers also...), but two years later I'm wearing heels again - I found the *right heels* for my feet, not as high (7 cm is the highest I go now), and the *right sole structure*, which is also extremely important (the curve of the sole, from heel to tow, should be as mild as possible), and I couldn't be happier!

What heel would you recommend for flat feet? And my feet sweat a lot. Any tips to diminish this?

The podiatrist is cool & knows her stuff. That said, for me « making heels comfortable » would be kinda like choosing which sandals to wear on an Arctic expedition.

This was so interesting. Please bring her back and talk about ill-fitting shoes and how to possibly help (ie. slightly too large, too small, too wide, too narrow, etc.).

My feet are narrow so most typical heels won’t even stay on my feet. My toes have to grip onto 90% of shoes as well. Can’t wear pumps or flats or anything like that, I walk right out of them.

Dear Ruth, you can use heel grip pads, amazon carries them, you can either stick them on your heels or on the inner rim of the heel cup which will help you not slip out, also there are lots of strappy heels that are more supportive than pumps,. wishing you all the best
