Awesome mate. I’m on the second day of Baztan now but turning off towards Sunbilla to do the Via Verde del Bitsoa (40km) tomorrow to get to Irun for the start of the Norte. Hopefully there is some WiFi tonight so I can do your episode!! 😊

I’ve stayed in quite a few places and all seem as good as each other really. Last year I stayed in an albergue called Gite Makila which is just a couple of doors downhill from the Pilgrims Office. Nice hospitality and very convenient 😊

The line outside the pilgrim office tells you something. The Frances is VERY busy this year. Good luck with your plan not to book accommodation! I’m currently approaching Leon and there are numerous stories of people unable to find a bed. I’m going for private rooms and this is becoming more popular than ever. Huge numbers of Koreans who have all watched a documentary about the Camino. Lovely weather though - but hot hot hot on the Meseta.

Thanks Margaret. I’ve been ok luckily as the South Koreans all seem to be booking the “guidebook stages” so I did St Jean (got a bed luckily), Espinal which had lots of vacancies as did Burgette, then I stayed in Villava just before Pamplona and again 2 different albergues with free beds. I’m not sure what the situation is like for private rooms though. I then moved off onto the Baztan and there are less than 10 pilgrims per day travelling that route so very easy to find accommodation. I get to Irun tomorrow for the Camino del Norte and rumours are abound that it’s very busy there too. I’ll find out I’m sure 😊 Enjoy some chocolate and churros in Leon and can I recommend a few hours after you leave Leon where the Camino splits …..go left! 😊 Wishing you a VERY Buen Camino. 😊👌👍
