I have 3a curly hair, dense, and low porosity. I have the hardest time in the Texas summer heat and humidity! It is always hot and humid probable 9 to 10 months out of the year.

This video is so helpful. I’m overwhelmed with all the products and information. I feel better knowing I can skip a step. I really did not want to use a deep conditioner after clarifying. The leave-in was just fine. Your explanation of porosity backed up my decision. Thanks!

You’re welcome! Those with normal porosity hair may only need to deep condition once a month or so. If you don’t have issues with dry hair, leave in conditioner will give you moisture

My God! THANK YOU! I have watched many tutorials on natural curly hair and you are by far the best!! I have been straightening my hair for 15 yrs and I have decided to go back to natural. I've been using a gel, but we have the EXACT same hair except I get frizz at my root and around the face. I thing I need to use a strong mousse. What brand do you use?

Great video. I am not new to the CG method...been doing it for about 18 months. But it is always nice to go back to the basics since it is an ongoing journey. My hair type is so similar to yours but we know weather and who knows what else means that not all products work for everyone. But so far your recommendations have been good for me. I really wanted to like Not Your Mothers. I had great results but the scent is so strong that it gave me headaches. A drugstore product line I really like is the Giovanni main line. The leave-in and strong hold gel work great and both are glycerine free...it was the best gel I found for this last humid summer. Thanks again!

I have very fine thin curly hair. Gets oily fast and my curls straighten really fast if I don’t put anything with hold in my hair. My issue is that I had a baby a year ago and my hair was normal but then I kept putting it up in a bun cuz I didn’t have time to do my hair. Now that he’s older and I have more time to do my hair the roots and a little down are not as curly anymore but my ends are my regular curls I’ve always had. So i don’t know if my hair is damaged? Or what’s going on. I stopped putting my hair in a bun I leave it down all the time I scrunch my hair to try and get it to curl and it just stays wavy a part from my ends. Idk what to do! Do I have to let my hair grow all the way out? And I think I’m high porosity? Idk because my hair gets weighed down easily. I’ve never dyed my hair and only heat I use is a diffuser
@GenaMarie
@GenaMarie 4 жыл бұрын
I wish I had discussed the differences with fine and coarse hair, because having fine hair can cause it to get weighed down easily and get buildup. I have high porosity hair, but also get buildup easily and have to clarify frequently because my hair is fine, so heavy products can weigh it down. Also, i know pregnancy can do some crazy things to curl patterns, so it could have changed curl types.

I have thick/course textured/high porosity hair that is a mixture of 2b/2c/3a curls, but I have highlights etc. My hair is very thirsty and responds well to heavier textures as otherwise it goes very frizzy. It never feels weighed down and I use a leave in conditioner, curl cream and a gel/custard for hold. It doesn't like glycerin in leave in products as it makes it frizzy. I only need to wash once or twice a week but I do refresh in between. I should also say it's very long (past my bra strap even when dry). I don't use much heat as it is damaged from highlights and is probably still transitioning (despite leaving it curly for well over a year). I'm 47 and get highlights to tone in the white (I bypassed grey) hairs in my naturally mid blonde hair.

So my curly hair is so weird 🤣 I have 3a/b curls when I get out of the shower my hair gets damp very fast but my hair also gets weighed down easily from products. I've also been getting a lot of breakage either semi short strands or shorter. So I'm not sure what I need. I feel like I'm shedding more hair as well. I will finger brush it before the shower gently in the shower with conditioner and then when I put a leave in, I am losing hair strands. So I'm not sure if that's just normal I usually wash my hair once a week and I have highlights. I need help 🥺

I'm at a total loss. I'm tired of sticking money into tons of products that don't give decent results. I've tried the moisture line from curlsmith which left my hair in frizzy waves. My hair is not wavy either. It use to be a type 3c curl, but after a few years of keratin global system on my hair my curl pattern is a disaster. It's so awful and kinky frizzy at the roots but so wavy at the ends. If I use to much product I look like I have wet hair when it's dry. If I use to less of product it's a horrible mess. My hair looks perfect when it's 60% dry. But as soon as it dries it flattens and my curl falls out and u have random hairs sticking out in every direction. Please help any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

This is so informative but I'm still lost on the porosity! I have colour treated (not bleached) fine long 2c hair (and not lots of hair!) My hair can get really frizzy, it dries reasonably fast (a few hours air drying, about 20 mins after using a hair wrap and diffuser) I find that lots of product can cause build up and weigh down my hair and it can often feel strawlike, but I also tick lots of high porosity boxes! Very confused 😜

Hi! So glad I found you! I’ve been struggling with high porosity, dry, wavy-ish hair! It is not fine but I have very little hair, born that way. I need to start with a shampoo ASAP! I was going to try Shea Moisture...I’m going to rewatch videos to gather all this info but is that a correct brand to start with? Thank you! I have damaged my hair so many times with product to get good results but bad aftermath. Then I go back to no product, and blah hair that looks like a rag doll. Flat and frizzy.

Hi Gena. I am new to using the correct products & have been doing ALOT of research. Sooo time consuming & expensive trying all these different things & not getting results. Not always the case! I could be your products aren't moisturizing enough, you're not using a strong enough hold gel so it frizzes right up, or your products dont contain enough film-forming ingredients and oils to help trap moisture in for longer.

Most of my hair is fine and curly, but I don't know if I have low or high porosity. My hair dries fast, is sensitive to humidity, and it gets really frizzy, but on the other hand my hair doesn't soak up product well and I often get buildup, and it doesn't feel dry at all. Is some of this due to me having fine hair? Am I high or low porosity? Also, should I treat my hair like it's wavy to avoid weighing it down?
@GenaMarie
@GenaMarie 4 жыл бұрын
I should have also mentioned fine versus coarse hair, because that can also impact results. It sounds like we have very similar hair! Because mine is also fine, I still get build up easily and it can get weighed down. However because it dries fast, is frizzy, and is sensitive to humdity it leans more high porosity. Hope that makes sense! Clarifying frequently is a huge benefit for all hair types.

It sounds like it’s low porosity. If your hair takes seconds to get wet in the shower or pool, then it’s high porosity. If it takes minutes to get wet, it’s low porosity. High porosity hair actually takes a long time to dry while low porosity dries pretty quickly. Low porosity hair has trouble absorbing water or products and actually needs heat to open up the cuticles when deep conditioning. High porosity hair has cuticles that are usually open, so they absorb water right away, much like a sponge. Also like a sponge, the water stays in the hair shaft longer than other porosities so it takes hours to dry.
@MissTiffanyK1
@MissTiffanyK1 3 жыл бұрын
@@Irishrainy that's not my understanding. High porosity has raised cuticles, so moisture enters and leaves easily. I don't see how this would mean it takes longer to dry... unless you managed to smooth the cuticle and lock in the moisture, I suppose? And low porosity would resist moisture, but again, if you managed to get water past the smooth cuticle, then it would take awhile to exit (in other words, take a long time to dry)

Gena, I think I accidentally deleted my question! I have between type 2-3 hair, low porosity and lacking protein (had a lab test). I style with Jessecurl Rocking Ringlets and Spiralious gel. What shampoo would you suggest? Also when I clarify do I need to deep condition each time or can I just add a regular leave-in?
@GenaMarie
@GenaMarie 4 жыл бұрын
Your hair is very similar to mine! I do recommend deep conditioning when you clarify because it helps to add the moisture back in. For shampoo, I suggest the Not Your Mother’s Curl talk, which is great for all hair types. For clarifying specifically, I love doing Apple cider vinegar rinses.
