Just got finished watching your video , and it really was a wake up call for me . I always wonder why my hair would look good one day and not the next . With curly hair you have to stay consistent in order to get results . I have literally done everything you can imagine to my hair and i just want my hair to back to its original state of being curly and healthy . Your video is very informative and it really taught me a few things . You just got yourself a new subscriber ! Thank you Gena for being you and wanting to share with world . I’m so glad I found your channel, I’ve started my curly journey about 2 weeks ago. I am a bit overwhelmed by all the information out here but I’ve found your channel to be the most helpful so far. What type of curls did you originally start out with? My hair looks really similar to your before pictures but not quite the same. I’m fairly certain I have 2B curls but honestly just trying to focus on getting moisture back into them for now so still a bit clueless. Thanks for making these videos!
@GenaMarie3 жыл бұрын
Glad my videos have helped! Honestly curl type is not important to decipher so I wouldn’t worry about it ☺️ It’s more important to understand your hair’s texture (fine, medium, coarse) and it’s porosity (low, medium, high/damaged)

If you use manic panic and attic fox, there is no chemical, it doesn't lift your hair at all it just deposits color Of course you have to use darker colors if you have dark hair, but it helps when you are addicted to crazy colors like me. All the fun with no damage. And yes, manic panic and arctic fox are curly girl approved, as long as you don't bleach your hair.

My hair is so BIG it seems to grow width wise 🤦♀️, haven’t straightened in probably 2 years & get regular trims, had about 6” cut off in 2016 after a stroke because my husband was doing my hair & I felt so bad for him dealing with it. I am getting more volume at root after watching you TY! I do color because I’m mostly salt n pepper and not ready to be at 52. Am going to try more products you recommend.

Great video! Your hair is so gorgeous, just a quick question. My hair is pretty wavy and has some curls but the top of my hair is always flat and frizzy. Any tips of how I can get it to stop the frizz and add more volume? Thanks so much!

Diffusing upside down helps with volume for me! I put the diffuser’s prongs right at the root and lift. Always finish with the cold air setting to prevent frizz. I did a video recently on causes of tangles, so that should help for more tips for frizz! 💗

No matter if I go all over the place to look at different hair video's and get different hair care advice . I would always return back to your videos, just, because your hair looks more like my hair does. The only difference is my hair is color black and your hair is brown your hair is thin so is mines. I do not have thick bouncy curls, I have a mixer of different hair type on my head. I have some limp 2b hair at the back of my neck, I also have a mixer of 3a/3b hair around the rest of my head. I am an in between hair type, but your advice seems to work the best for my type (3) hair.

Just an FYI, everything is made of chemicals. Your hair is made of chemicals, water is a chemical, you breathe chemicals (oxygen). I think the term you’re looking for when talking about “chemical” hair dyes is harsh chemicals.

Deep conditioners are meant be left on your hair longer, and usually contain more intense moisturizing ingredients. They are more like treatments. Conditioners are more for regular use and are not left on very long.

@carablackburn15064 жыл бұрын
A bit late to the game, but.. The more often you wash your hair the more often it'll get oily. You just need to slowly train your hair to get used to being washed to however often you want and gradually cut down on washes. Try every two days to start with, then less and less. Hope this helps! 😊
@kristinsease79976 жыл бұрын
Doing curly girl method for many years but cheated here and there. I did all deva girl products for about a year and ended up with severe scalp buildup and shedding. Switched to a silicone sulfate free low suds shampoo with some improvement. Still more build up or "dandruff" looking flakes than I want! Should I switch my gel?
@GenaMarie6 жыл бұрын
Try doing scalp cleansers every other week or so, such as the DevaCurl Build Up Buster. Another good clarifier is a raw apple cider vinegar rinse. Also avoid applying products too close to your scalp to prevent build up.

Use a silk pillowcase or wrap your hair in a silk head wrap It'll keep your curls in place while you move around in your sleep. It has great benefits for your skin as well. They go for about $10-20 on Amazon.

I have oily ish hair. I know you said not to wash everyday, but Ive seen prettier curls if I wash more consistently and if I don't wash often my hair gets super oily. Is washing twice a week optional?
@GenaMarie4 жыл бұрын
I've heard you can gradually "train" your hair to become less oily by going longer in between washes. Some people naturally produce more oil, however shampooing frequently can also cause more oil production. Try going every other day, then every 2, and gradually increasing it. You can wear it up, use dry shampoos, scalp refreshers, etc. to extend it in between. But overall, do what is best for your hair :)
@bbsharr864 жыл бұрын
In terms of dyeing my hair... I use 100% natural henna because I've never liked using chemicals on my hair and for a 33 year old I have so many gray hairs my hair is more salt than pepper. So I really need that henna. Is that really harmful for bringing back my curls?

Is there any way to avoid clumps of ringlets and limit shrinkage?
@GenaMarie5 жыл бұрын
Depends on the application method you use for your styling products. If you use the “praying hands” method, where you press the hair between your hands and run the product down the curls, it prevents shrinkage. To avoid clumps, you can comb your fingers through your hair after applying products to break them up.
@MarthaGonzalez-yy9hc5 жыл бұрын

My hair used to look similar to yours. I had 3b hair, now i have 2c hair. Im nearly 26 now and ive been straightening my hair since i was 16!! I really regret it. I only started transitioning last year december but up until now i have straightened it twice.. and for about 3 months i tied my hair up in a pony tail and straightened the tail about 3 times each month of those 3 months. So i havent been good, but in losing patience!!. My hair has only slightly improved. I have a lot of hair but its thin coarse hair. So its so annoying and i cant use too many products. Im still on the search for the perfect product! Do you go to a hairdressers to cut your hair that specialises in curly hair? Or do you go to any hairdresser? I had a deva cut in february but.its so expensive
@GenaMarie6 жыл бұрын
That is so great to hear you are now transitioning! It takes a lot of patience but will be SO worth it! I go to an Aveda salon, and I requested a stylist that has experience with curly hair. My stylist doesn't do Deva cuts, but is gentle with my hair and doesn't chop too much because she understand how curly hair shrinks so much when dried. I wish I could get a Deva cut sometime, but don't have a salon near me. I think since you already got one, that's a great start to develop a good shape. and you could go to a regular stylist to just give you dusting trims but keep that same shape you got from the Deva cut. I would make sure they are a stylist that knows curly hair though. I asked the salon manager and receptionist which helped pick the right stylist for curls!
