If you get certified through Preppy, do you still have to go and take the exam with AAPC or the other certification schools?

@@tanyajstolp Yes, no matter what training you go through (even directly with the AAPC) you still have to sit through and pass the certification exam to be certified. If you go through Preppy you will still need to become a member of the AAPC and take and pass the CPC exam to become a CPC. Think of it like nursing -- you can go and get your training and an associates degree but until you pass your NCLEX you are not an RN (registered nurse).

I honesty want to get a job after I graduate next week with my associates in Medical Coding. Its hard finding one especially since most of the jobs require some type of Certification. The CPC test itself is so expensive!

That's what I'm realizing and I'm going to school for coding because I'm epileptic and really need a remote job, I know its been done but considering my resume I'm probably going to have to make it work at some in-person location. Hi Victoria, I have my CPC-A and went on my first interview as a medical coder. After my interview I went to take a assessment test and didn't have a clue what I was doing so I got frustrated and confused. Prior to my interview the coordinator didn't say anything about bringing my own books so that was the first mistake and second I have no clue how to work 3M software. Can you do a demonstration on how to use 3M software when taking a assessment test please?

So I went through a medical coding program through PMI (Practice Management Institute) and got my CMC (Certified Medical Coder) certification a few months ago. It's an equivalent to AAPC's CPC. The problem is I have zero job experience and none of the jobs I've looked at even mention my certification. It just kinda sucks doing all that self study, then taking a six hour, hand written test, passing on the first try, and then nothing. I could probably go through a more common certification pretty quickly and easily, but all of them are hella expensive. :/

Yes, anyone can visit a local chapter twice before being asked to become an AAPC member. If you already are an AAPC member, you will automatically be assigned a local chapter based on your zip code in your account.

I just recently passed my CPC exam earlier this month and working on getting ready to work on Practicode through AAPC to have the A removed. I did search through Indeed just to see what was out there and there were a few companies that were accepting CPC-A.

CSI and Judge both provide temps to Optum. It seems to take months to hear back from those recruiters, apparently because they have many applicants. I have also heard that you should only apply to one of those agencies for Optum positions.
