Of late I have been finding my fun living out of a "van". Just a cheap T1 hauler, a cheap T1 frigate, and a willingness to find a system on the map and say, "I want to go there". Meet the locals, learn to make your ships do multiple things, avoid pirates, it's great. Do I make isk off of it? Not really. Making money isn't the point! It's just making my own fun.

Great video! I like your approach to the content EVE has to offer, it's the same advice I give to people in Star Citizen: best way to make money? The loop you enjoy the most! Why? Because it's the thing you'll have the most fun in and so it's the path that you can attain the longest

@@captainbenzie its almost depressing when you look at how the average gamer heads into a game nowadays; they try to get the highest yield in whatever wealth the game has to offer (amount of currency/level/gear score/rank, whatever) without actually "getting" to enjoy the game. Maybe it's because I'm from a different generation of gamer, where "playing the game" was "the goal", well that and getting the credit roll. But I stumbled upon your videos trying to get a better understanding of EVE Online and to hopefully find a loop that feels entertaining. I've tried it before years ago, but got lost in the vastness of its possibilities. Last year I got back into space games and player driven universes always appealed to me. Since I usually refer to EVE and how CCP built, maintains and expands upon this world, when I talk about impressive MMOs, I figured I'd get back into it and so far I'm enjoying myself quite a bit, even without quite understanding what I'm doing (yet)
@PvtDamion9 ай бұрын
@@captainbenzie that, plus that the average gamer almost requires instant gratification to "enjoy" a game (one of the reasons cheating is such a prevalent occurrence). The new AIR system is great for getting (back) into New Eden, although a bunch of things are still rough to grasp for a newbie (or one of the kids distracted me during an ingame tutorial). But so far the pace is filling a much needed gap in my current list of games

Honestly, that sounds like you're going into EVE with a competitive mindset. Don't. Go into it as a social event, meeting new people, making stories. Then multiboxing and losses etc don't matter. Its called EvE which stands for Everyone vs Everyone. The most fun to be had is in the PVP. Any other activity in the game is simply done in support of replacing the ships that need to constantly be blown up. Tasks VS "the actual game". Learn about all the ships, one ship at a time, and learn how to kill them. Learn how to not be killed by them. Everyone vs Everyone.
@MysticalDragon7310 ай бұрын
That may be true for YOU, but many others do not enjoy pvp, find it stressful etc. I loved mining and ran 12 toons. Others hated mining and preferred ratting, missioning etc. Thats ok. To claim that pvp is the most fun in eve is narrowminded and doesnt speak about what others may or may not enjoy. I would never be so presumptuous to claim such nonsense just as I never looked down on others that enjoyed other aspects as long as they werent griefing others and being classless.

When I first started Eve, a vet told me that Eve is pvp...period. Everything else is sugar coating over this fact. Want to mine? You will be hunted and killed. Want to run missions? You will be hunted and killed. For beginners, this can be extremely frustrating. There is no safe activity for beginners. If you are a beginner, just know that you are part of the vet's content (the joy if killing a beginner). Join a corp as soon as you can. The bigger the better. Having said all that, Eve is the only game I've played that gets my heart pumping. That is my fun :)

Sadly thats one aspect that I dislike about eve as do many others. I should have places I can relax after work, when tired etc. I dont expect to get rich but I want to be able to play the game that I PAY for without being bothered by others. Thats an aspect that was nice with elite dangerous. We could run in solo or private modes which was nice. However it also felt empty too. When I returned to the game in 2009 with several new player friends, we got grief war decced by a griefer in an interceptor. After 3 weeks of that I'd had enough and purchased my main. We caught the sob and killed him. He finally stopped and moved on. Sadly it caused several friends to leave the game and never return. Thankfully they have changed this mechanic to only being able to war dec those with structures. However the depth and variety of the game is what often brings me back along with many others.
@captainbenzie10 ай бұрын
@@MysticalDragon73 I understand where you're coming from here but there are other games that fill that niche out there, that's not what EVE is meant to be. No game can be for everyone, nor should a game ever try to be. EVE is what EVE is, and it's up to players to decide if that's what they want or not. I wouldn't go into World of Warcraft and demand they add spaceships, nor would I go into Madden and demand a rugby mode. That ability to run solo/private is exactly WHY Elite Dangerous is so empty. You can't have a flourishing world where folks constantly interact, and also offer them a completely safe stay at home experience. EVE Echoes made this mistake too. EVE Online understands and focuses needlepoint onto what it is.
@Perfectflight-i3f10 ай бұрын
