What art style and niche are you interested in making or trying out?
@Amelia_PC4 ай бұрын
I'm interested in a genre I've coined 'Super Fantasy,' a combination of urban fantasy, fantasy, and heroic elements. It's a fun concept, and I never thought I'd enjoy drawing mythical creatures in Adidas jackets and sneakers haha

I'm a pixel artist who mostly make characters, I can make both individual sprites and animated, so these are possible niches, I was also considering making twitch emotes. But they all focus on making CHARACTERS specifically, usually in a more chibi video game top-down or sidescroller style. (oh and fan art, I like making fan art as well....) Yeah, I think I'm gonna just make tiny cute top-down style characters, probably still need to narrow that down more...

I like to think I have a unique art style. I make digital illustrations that exhibit visible brush work, dynamic perspective, low-mid saturation, while having a cinematic feel. I usually tend to draw things with a more serious tone, but I can do more comedic ones. I'm really interested in being able to illustrate different stories, but do I have to focus on a particular subject/genre, or is working on my style enough?

I just realized it, from the few weeks I've been replaying all your video playlists, how I trully love conceptualizing Final Fantasy characters. Way back during my high school years, I've been drawing all my characters based on the style of Tetsuya Nomura, one of Square's notable artists back in their golden years, I've been emulating his art style a lot back then. Perhaps I've forgotten all that passion as I've become an adult which prevented me to make art for myself, but I think I'm rekindling that love now that I'm gaining traction on my art again for a bit. Perhaps I'll try making characters again based on that style and I think FFXIV could be an ideal niche for me as a starting point.

My niche naturally developed to, like, digital watercolor style anime portraits with colored pencil looking lineart. I was inspired by both farming sims and fantasy JRPGs, so I'm currently debating between those as my main subjects (I'm perfectly happy doing both, I guess I'll see which communities will give my art more attention and do that?). I'm satisfied with my work and this style. And now, I need to figure out where and how to market that. Thank you for your advice, it's been incredibly helpful.

very good advice, i found my niche few years ago, which is semi realistic furry art and i hate when people say to go draw furries for easy commissions or money, i can say after 2 years of doing commissions, its not easy its pretty tough. some months i get one or two, others i get nothing but thats just how it is. your tips have helped me get really good clients, i follow them religiously at this point and have gotten a few returning clients

I've know my niche because it's naturally what I always wanna draw: fantasy character, creature and prop designs with unecessarily complicated details in anime-esque style. I can't imagine dedicating to a niche because it's popular, easy money, high demand or that it's less saturated.

Sounds like you have a lot of interests! That's great, however, can I recommend that you narrow that a bit? Character and creature design exclusivity might get you more if you focused on one

Thank you for the video! I love drawing fantasy backgrounds, but I suppose most clients for that would be commercial? I think that private clients would mostly commission art pieces with characters on them.

To be honest, my life is a series of paradoxes. I can get so fixated on something and then get easily burned out. Like right now, I'm drawing fanart on the actor, Chris Pratt and his characters but I also want to draw fantasy themed subject, like "Lord of the Rings" I'm still in the learning proccess of the basic drawing skills. What I enjoy about drawing my current theme is to get better at drawing and coming up with creative ideas in the procces. Finding my style and technique skills. I'm working with color pencils but I also like to paint but more importantly is to focus on my commitment with my art. 😊

It’s not serving me. This comment serves as a maker for the moment I’ve decided I don’t need anyone’s permission to make something I’m passionate about.

by not going through with it, you are failing without even trying. you have nothing to lose and so much to gain. if you go through with it, worst case scenario, you still learn a new skill. if you don't, you will feel incredible amounts of regret. go through with learning it! you're gonna do incredible things if you do.

i think people take genre too seriously. by that i mean they think being in a genre means locking down everything into the conventions that are already established. but it doesnt have to be so strict, you can absolutely add new twists and spins that make your work stand out. for example, my work qualifies as Urban fantasy. but my twists is that i have alot of care and attention to detail and realism and use High fantasy levels of world building. then i give my characters more unique designs by anthropomorphism. fantasy doesn't mean you strictly have to be a tolkin clone or generic DND. yes its true that generic things can make more money but a loyal audience is way better then a larger one.

Maybe I would want to draw cool illustrations with great landscapes and beautiful architecture in perspective, but it feels too intimidating. So I need to do a lot of research and practice, I guess.
