How-To: Finding & Fixing Fuel Dilution Via Used Oil Analysis (Expo 2024 - Episode 25)

This episode is all about how to use oil analysis to reduce engine wear and improve performance.
The segment begins at ‪@EFIUniversity1‬ where Ben Strader and Lake Speed Jr ‪@themotoroilgeek‬ have the Expo engine on the dyno. First they run it naturally aspirated (NA), then they run it boosted, taking oil samples after each run to send to the lab.
Then we jump back to Lake’s office where he walks through the test results and explains how different oil viscosities affect the wear of various engine parts. He also explains why more fuel equates to more fuel dilution and lower oil viscosity.
Following the results, the segment returns to the Expo studio where Lake is joined by Billy Godbold to talk about the tricks the pros use to reduce the most common problem -- fuel contamination - and boost performance while reducing engine wear by as much as 2/3rds.

Understand your discussion of viscosity increase and temp increase to aid in water mitigation and dilution, but can you say what is/was your main bearing clearance tolerance and what is it idealized for in terms of viscosity range, eg, watched you video with the gent about viscosity selection versus main bearing clearances.

Does anyone run oil heaters in the pan and oil tanks to raise the oil temp above 212 degrees F to boil off the blow-by/water? You could still have a low coolant temp for detonation resistance. I also wonder what the cylinder hone and ring pack were for that engine at +1300 HP? Gas ported rings, gapless? CNC vertical hone job with a honing head with 6/8/12 stones on the head?

cant get fuel dilution if you get to drunk to operate the engine.... just saying 🍻
