@gowolves4 That's really a loaded question. If you fish light jigs that are 1/4 oz and smaller and you fish big crankbaits and 1/2oz or heavier spinnerbaits then you could get buy with a MH rod with 12lb or 15lb test. But if you want to fish big jigs then you need a Heavy rod 15 to 20lb test, and if you want to fish most crankbaits and spinnerbaits you need a Med Moderate action rod with 10lb or 12lb test line.

@Bluebuzzkidd Thanks, I call the color "Classic". It is based off of the jig that Charlie Hartley used in the '07 Bassmaster Classic. I was interviewing him and he let me get a picture of the jig and a couple of years later I started making a living rubber jig in that color. It has put hundreds of bass in my boat.

@kristina2799 I almost always fish heavy grass with a soft plastic. Usually a Rage Craw. I ether fish it T-Rigged with a heavy weight or I fish what's called a Rage Rig. I'm going to make a video about that rig this week and It will probably be the first video I upload this week. So stay tuned.

Just getting into Jig fishing, so i thought "who else would I go to watch besides Flukemaster Gene Jensen". Exactly the kind of video I needed along with the multiple other jig videos to learn this technique. Many of us here in WV wait for new videos and share them amongst ourselves and on FB. You're widely appreciated up here for all the knowledge & videos! Thanks Gene! P.S. I believe we saw this Cyprus tree in a dropshotting video later on, though I may be wrong. This tree produces fish! Lol

Yes. Even if it's a light wire hook. A jig with a heavy hook should be fished with a MedHvy or Hvy action rod and at least 17lb test line. I prefer 20lb line.

FlukeMaster, you have done it again! Seriously, a fantastic video. You talk bass like no other. I enjoy each video you make and why you don't have your own television show is beyond me. I watch the Big Boys and they are so into looking good, promoting their sponsor, that they forget the main reason to watch their show is to learn! You can tell you have paid your dues by hours and hours and hours of practice and fishing. We have visited by email before and buddy never worry you have what it takes

Another great vid, Flukemaster! I was lifting and dropping jigs like a T-rigged worm. Probably looked un-natural and was too fast. The quick double pop and leave set is the key. Great system. You belong on the B.A.S.S. Tour or FLW Tour; you'd win, too.

@kristina2799 Cool, I'm glad I could help. Keep an eye out for some more videos coming soon. I'll be on the water all this week.
@Flukemaster12 жыл бұрын
@Timothyk11 I flip is more accurate and makes less splash than a pitch. It's used when you need to hit a target the size of a shot glass. You are also able to fish a lot faster when flipping. A pitch is used when the water is fairly clear and you need to stay back from the cover to avoid spooking the fish.
@richardly115512 жыл бұрын

I use straight Fluorocarbon. It's more of a confidence thing for me. I set the hook so hard that I'm afraid that if I tie on a leader it will break at the knot. I don't like braid for jigs because I fish a lot of clear water and I feel that I'm missing bites because the bass can see the line. I don't use mono because it stretches to much.
@Flukemaster13 жыл бұрын
@Achap95 As you know it always boils down to what the bass want. In early spring and post cold front conditions I have let it sit for as long as 10 seconds before getting a hit and that's not just for one fish. That was the pattern for the whole day. (10 seconds-a little shake and BAM fish on) The first time that happened it blew my mind.

@BassSlayer2 I fish that jig most of the time. I will switch to a finesse jig with a Baby Rage Craw or a Zoom Super Chunk Jr. when the water gets below 50 degrees. I won't fish a jig when it's so windy I can't feel a bite.
@Flukemaster12 жыл бұрын
I use a Rage Tail Baby Craw. Sometimes I pinch off a little of the body when I want an even smaller profile jig. You can also use a Zoom Baby chunk.
@Flukemaster11 жыл бұрын
For a 1/4oz jig I use a Duckett 7' Med Casting rod with 15lb Izorline XXX line. For anything heavier I use a Duckett 7"3' Med Heavy or Heavy with 20lb Izorline XXX line. All rods have a Revo 7.3:1 reel on them.

For bank fishing I love to use a light jig like a 1/4oz or smaller and I trim the skirt up and tend to use smaller trailers. That's because I hardly ever see big craws and baitfish around the shallows.

I wouldn't call it a fact. I don't like to change my spool tension because I may want to make a cast or two in between pitches and I don't want to get a backlash when I do. I have learned to do it without loosening the spool tension.
@Flukemaster11 жыл бұрын
No. A swim jig doesn't do well on the bottom the head shape causes it to lay on it's side and that puts the hook out of position for a positive pick up and hook set.
@Flukemaster12 жыл бұрын
@kristina2799 When making any cast with a bait caster you always trip the bail before you make the cast. Your thumb is what controls the cast.
@Flukemaster12 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the type of jig you are fishing. Some are better for rocks but are bad in weeds. Others are made for weeds and get hung if fished in rocks.

There was a time when I wasn't a believer in rattles but I've had my tail handed to me by my fishing partner who would add rattles on the same jig I was fishing. So now I put them on every jig no matter what the water clarity.

I am attempting to fish with plastics and jigs this season. Already started actually. No luck what so ever, but not giving up. when it comes to setting the hook on a jig, is it the same as you would with plastics? do you set it overhead or a sweeping action like a crankbait?

A big question I have is...At what water temperature would you be most likely to fish a jig? Would you fish a jig in 70-75 degree temperature or would you switch to a texas rigged worm at that high of temperature? I've heard jigs should be fished in cooler water temps???
@Flukemaster10 жыл бұрын
I have a jig tied on 365 days a year. I don't fish it much in the summer unless the fish are deeper than a crankbiat can run. (20+ feet)

I know this is an older video but I remember fishing last year and got my Yamamoto worm stuck in some weeds remembering what u said about popping it out when stuck I did and as it came free a 36 inch muskie hit it fought it about 3 min and broke my line but that pop pop really works only reason why I know it was that long in the same spot I found it dead the next day look like it was hit by a boat prop

hello, i have recently been pitching and flipping jigs a lot. I'm using 40lb power pro braided line. I snapped my line twice, when setting the hook on two bass. I wasn't in any thick structure, just a little vegetation. Both of them jumped right out of the water when my line was snapped. I was wondering if it's my knot that isn't holding up, or I'm letting them inhale the jig for too long.
