Love topwater at night. Hearing those fish bust the water in the dark gets the heart pumping. Never tried a jerk bait at night. I use a similar pattern on all types of lures. 1- 1,2 - 1. Seems when you keep a pattern going the fish can’t stand it.

What body of water were you fishing? I have been out recently to Cherry Creek, the spawn seems to have come to an end. I just moved here and Walleye is my favorite fish to target. I have only caught a few... Can you recommend some other areas where I can catch them?

I was using both, but this particular night the float ones were getting smacked more. I was fishing an inlet into the lake where the walleye running up. The pattern I was using was the all silver with a blue back. @@dateacher303 Believe it or not yet. I didn't think walleye eat top water. Always wonder what it was at night that would splash top of the water. It only works at night when they come feed shallow. I use a floating jerk bait, after two twitches it re-surfaces and that's when they smack it. They are not good at hooking into the bait for every 5 hits I hook one.

I watched it but I don't consider a floating rogue a topwater lure because it still dives a foot or two. A pencil lure or something like a Vixen, frog, etc are pure topwater lures. I use floating jerks and slow rising jerks for eyes -- HJ, rogues, 6th sense, etc. Good stuff though! Ya'll need to bring some pliers! Be safe and tightened! Headed out tonight but northwest!

I thought you couldn't use a lamp when night fishing for walleye? Because they are attracted to the light so it's considered cheating. In Minnesota you can get a ticket for that.
