BOOM! Matt helps me out again! Trying to fit a 32" spare into a ZJ, at first I thought I would have to buy more hardware, etc. etc. All I had to see is sending the bolt thru a lug hole; and, voila! Say no more. I kept trying to put it in the stock way; but, just that slight change made all the difference. Didn't have to buy or find anything.

I finally got a 29ish" (235/75 R15) spare a couple days ago for my 98 ZJ. I couldn't find this video for ideas so I just strapped a bungie cord to the metal loop for the spare, and the top cargo hook by the rear seat 😂 I'll have to look for the hook you mentioned so I can mount it back properly! At least until I can afford a hitch gate for my spare.

That's great. I am new to jeeps just got a 2000 XJ. I am putting a rusty's 3" lift on and was planning on running 31's. I was happy to see this video I was wondering if A 31 would just fit inside. Actually I am now going to win the bet with dad LOL. Thanks for the vid.

I did this to my new to me 88 jeep Cherokee and it worked great! Took me and another person a little while to get it all done. But it is working good so far.

I can get the seat to lock on mine, as long as the seat is locked before I put the tire in. Biggest difference I see, is on my 99, the rear speakers take up a lot of that space at the ceiling, so I had to remove the bracket under the tire.

That longer extension is most likely from a Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ, mine was stock with one just about that size when i first bought it.

the longer extension is from any cherokee with the full size spare. the short one he had was from a cherokee with a donut spare

I didn't know it was that hard. I had a 31" tire on a 15x8 rim back there. The biggest problem is getting the threaded pin completely straight.

bleepinjeep I realize my 98 came with a full sized spare because it had the factory LSD, and had the longer pin to start with. I just assumed that all XJ's came with the same sized pin. In my case, I never had to move or adjust anything with the back seat. My only problem is getting the lug hole on the rim lined up with the bracket and straight so I can start threading the nut on. If I remember correctly, there are 2 holes in the bracket on the bulkhead for the rod. The lower one is for the doughnut, and the upper one is for the full sized spare.

This was super helpful, great video! Quick question, as I imagine you know more about XJ's than I do; when I was shifting the rear seat bracket, the back-side fell down inside of the unibody... lol. Any ideas on how to get that out?

I removed that little metal bracket and fit a 33x12.5. Hatch closes but the seat won't latch on that side. Passanger just has to sit proper. Haha.
