Thanks for your videos, just one thing I'd like to point out. At 00:58 you fit a 90 degree service valve which is a good step, however, once the cistern is in the wall unit there is no room to get a screwdriver in if the service valve ever needed to be closed off. It would have been better to fit a straight service valve further down the feed pipe (with the isolator screw facing towards the front) Access to the service valve would then be quite easy and not restricted by the side of the cabinet. Apart from that, another good video.

@ultimatehandyman I've encountered that problem too,its usually the grease or silicone spray that allowing the pan connector to slide off, So what I do is take the grease off with meths or terps dry it off and just use a little water to lubricate the spigot, those long flexi pan connectors are notorious for sliding off, so I fit a clip from the pan connector to some timber fixed to the floor, I like that tip with the double sided tape to get the position of the pan fixings , :-)

I just pushed the bog back to wall(close coupled), lined up steel ruler with centers of holes on side of pan, measured width of pan wall then heaved pan back out of way drilled and fixed to floor at the width of pan foot then heaved it back again and voila. The L shape brackets should have multiple holes so the screw will find at least one of them. These new bogs are so damn heavy, unless you have an earthquake,they ain't going anywhere, especially with a cistern full of water too !!

Your videos are fantastic, particularly because I am refurbishing a bathroom of similar age tot he one you are working on in the videos At 12.37 you don't show the fitting of the flexible pan connector, however I can just see you have connected it to the waste pipe by bending it through 90 degrees. Please confirm the following: 1. That flexible pan connectors can be used to make a 90 degree bend directly out of the toilet. 2. please clarify whether I need to weld a socket onto the end of the soil pipe before inserting the other end of the flexible pan connector. Thanks for your help.
@ultimatehandyman10 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can bend the flexible pan connectors as long as the bend is a sweeping bend and not too severe, there must also be a slight fall on it. The flexible pan connector will not fit in a socket as the socket is too big, you need to connect it to the soil pipe or you need to cut a piece of soil pipe to fit in the socket first

@ultimatehandyman9 жыл бұрын
The pan should only need fixing to the floor, once it's fixed it should not move. Rustproof screws are best in a bathroom such as Screwfix's Turbogold XT screws or similar as these will not rust but normal wood screws can be used.

However I cannot figure out how to fit a swan neck pan connector to the outlet on the toilet if i cannot physically get to it as it is a back to wall model? @@ultimatehandyman hi. Thanks for the reply. After I asked you for advice I have since been informed that this type of fitting, or at least the one I have, doesn't require an outside over flow as it has one built in , which if required , runs the excess water directly into the into the toilet bowl. Can you use silicon only to fit the base to the floor, without using the brackets, if you've screwed the cistern to the wall.
@ultimatehandyman3 жыл бұрын
I'd screw it down to be honest. The cistern is only connected to the toilet via the flush pipe - it does nothing to support the toilet.

Hi. I have watched loads of videos on here now because we have just moved into a house with a back to the wall toilet in ground floor loo and it leaks at the basin when it gets flushed. When I flushed the loo it filled with water and took ages for it to go down so I plungerd it. Water appeared all over the toilet floor. Because its a closed in loo I cant see where its leaking. I can assume that its the flexible multi fit that must have somehow come away when I plungered it. (at this stage I must tell you that I'm NOT a plumber, I'm a handyman in a nursing home). Now when I flush the toiled water floods out all around the basin at the very bottom. Could this be because of the force of me plungering it? And if it is, to get the pan out I'm going to have have to take the cistern off first aren't I? That means turning the water off... then taking it off, removing the pan... am I on the right tracks? Please give me your opinion. Thanks, Ed.
@ultimatehandyman8 жыл бұрын
You need to remove the facia panels to be able to see the back of the toilet pan. Some of the toilet flexible pan connectors are a real pain in the backside. When I first installed this I bought a toilet from ebay and it turned out that it was European. When I installed it using a flexible pan connector there was no way it would seal and every few hours it crept and slipped off from the spigot. In the end I had to buy another toilet, which was much easier to get a good seal. If a flexi toilet pan connector has been used there is a chance that it has been disturbed with the force of plunging it. A mate of mine who is a plumber told me to install it, then cut some blocks of wood to support underneath it, because they can start to sag over time, which eventually makes the flexi pull away from the spigot. I'm sure I also cut some lengths of 2*1 timber and jammed them between the wall and the lip on the flexi connector, then used cable tiles to hold them in place, it is impossible for the flexi to be removed from the spigot without removing the timber first. You should not need to remove the cistern to do any of this, providing you can remove the panels behind the toilet. I'm off to work now Ed, but if you need any advice the guys in the forum are normally helpful- www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/forum1/plumbing-forum-f8.html Best of luck with it ;-)
@edwarddevon54998 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for replying to my email. I really appreciate it. I will try to remove the panels but who ever it was who installed it nailed it together and then sealed it shut even more by tiling over it. I'm sure I will get it off. I'll let you know how I get on and thank you once again for your help. Cheers mate Ed.

Hello! HandyMan. A question is bothering me! I was abroad on holiday and came across a unique classy toilet in the hotel. It has a silent flush and then the water comes from the bottom to fill up again. You have any idea what this type of cistern is called and if they do this in the uk??
@voodoomotion58555 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial! taping the brackets is a nifty method ;) Was the spigot on the new toilet glazed or rough? I had similar problem because the spigot was glazed so the flexi pipe wouldn't grip and kept popping off! Was going to build a framework to press up against the pipe edge but realised the toilet had a hairline crack in the u-bend and was leaking! Bought a new design and the spigot had a rough unglazed outer edge, was difficult to get on even with lubricant but so far has held for a few days - do you think it's safe? Best wishes mate, keep up the great work!

One big thing I noticed, and you may want to add a warning. In the video, when you set the WC to the panel, and marked the height (before you cut the panel) the WC was still standing on the spare bit of bath panel that you slid the toilet around on. If anyone does this then, when the WC is eventually screwed to the FLOOR, it will be lower than the original marks. This could have awful consequences its likely that the cut out will then be visible!!

I did that same job at home today, took me half the day but got there in the end ha ha, doing the vanity unit tomorrow, that rubber into the back of the toilet you had trouble getting in, I smeared some Vaseline around the inside of the hole and it slid in so easy I fully expected it to leak, but not a drop came out off it.

I found out that the toilet I bought from ebay was a European one which is designed to be cemented in around the waste outlet. I was told by several plumbers never to lubricate the spigot on the back of the toilet as the pan connector can slip off! Thanks for the comment

Getting the flush pipe keyseal on was a bit of a laugh. Bit of wood? Faulty toilet? You have the wrong connections
@ultimatehandyman10 жыл бұрын
juanpaulie Actually it was the wrong toilet- one which I bought from ebay which is probably from Spain or somewhere, where they cement in the toilet waste's.

probably easier to just buy it from a supplier. atleast you know it fits in with code and can be under warranty if anything goes to shit...literally

"It's roughly level..." sums up a pro's attitude. A diyer would measure accurately and use a spirit level...
