@MarkBryanRC Жыл бұрын
Thanks Avi! That Truck Sounds great! Hmm, with the TBLE02 it sounds like it's going into overload shutoff. I'd try it with a standard silver can and see if that works, it could be your motor draws too much current (less than 21 turns?). You need a LiPo alarm for that battery or the TBLE02 will kill it, it doesn't have a LiPo cutoff! Cheers! :)

Hi Mark I followed your video series on setting up a TT-02 for rally; very informative and easy to follow, thanks. I have a Q about this ESC: I’m running a brushless motor and 2S LiPo. The receiver is bound but when I turn on the transmitter then ESC the ESC beeps once and one flash green, then fast flash red. When I press and hold the setup button and power on the ESC it slow beeps and flashes green…! Any help would be much appreciated 🙏🏼

@MarkBryanRC Жыл бұрын
Hi again Toby. Ah there is definitely a problem. For brushless mode, the ESC should flash orange when you turn on. Flashing green once and one beep indicates brushed mode. The flashing red after that means that the ESC is in overload protection mode. This could be caused by the motor or battery problems. It may be the ESC is now damaged, but try setting it to brushless mode and see if that works. Good luck!

Hi there. I'm sorry to say that the TBLE02s does not support sensorless motors. If you plug it in nothing will happen, the motor will not spin. Cheers, Dylan. I recommend the brushless conversion. The sensored motors run really smoothly, and faster (depending on the number of turns/Kv you go for) but the thing I like the most is that your run times are so much longer as the motors are much more efficient. I wouldn't go lower than a 13.5 turn though, as the plastic bevel gears are prone to stripping with way too much power.

@MarkBryanRC5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Roadside RC! That Mustang will look awesome! Glad you liked the video, it was nice doing it with my young son! No - I kept the transmission standard but I have stripped one of the diff gears - installed a new plastic one (very cheap) and it has been fine since, but the diffs are a weak point on these models so an upgrade to the DF metal diffs is a good option, but it takes a little filing to get them to fit, so I have heard. :-)

@MarkBryanRC5 жыл бұрын
No worries - yeah, the DF-02 metal diffs fit in with a little persuasion! The plastic dogbones (or driveshafts) are very strong and it's quite expensive to change them for the steel ones. The propshaft is a cheap option to change for the alloy hop-up, about £10 with the alloy prop joints. Yeah it was my son, Alfie, asking questions and filming for me on his Samsung phone! :))
@MrKingNica6 жыл бұрын
Do you mind telling me at what temperature did you have your soldering iron Set to please?
@MarkBryanRC6 жыл бұрын
Hi King Nica - My soldering iron is rated at 30W and the temperature is not adjustable. The melting point of most solder is in the region of 188°C (370°F) and the iron tip temperature is typically 330°C to 350°C (626°F to 662°F). So a good starting point is 350°C. The temperature is not too critical though - it just needs to be hot enough to melt the solder thoroughly so it flows into the joint - the important thing is not to leave the soldering iron in contact with the joint too long after the solder has flowed, this is when overheating of the job may happen. Just take the soldering iron tip off the joint as soon as it has flowed and all will be fine. Hope this helps mate!
@gravey074 жыл бұрын
What battery types must you use for brushless? Thanks.
@MarkBryanRC4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Well it depends more on your ESC than the brushless motor. Most ESC's are both NiMh and LiPo 2s compatible (some are also 3s compatible). If you are using LiPo, make sure the ESC has a LiPo cut-off - if not you will need to fit a LiPo cut-off alarm. The ESC instructions will provide all the information you need. Hope this helps! :)

Hello again; I´m trying to set up my TBLE 02S for brushless mode. I wasn´t sure whether you had the radio on while you did it, but as you asked Alf to press "forward" and there seemed to be no delay while he switched on, I took it that you had the Tx switched on all along. When I try it, I get a red, rather than an orange, LED which flashes quickly, unlike your slower orange flash. Pressing the "set" button has no effect. I´ve tried with the Tx switched off with the same result and I know that it´s working as the steering works. I´m starting to think I may have a faulty ESC, but as it´s brand new and genuine Tamiya that does seem unlikely. Have you any advice for me?
@MarkBryanRC6 жыл бұрын
Hi Del - Hmmm - something sounds amiss! You need to do the brushed/brushless setup with the Tx OFF Hold the set button down BEFORE you power on (I need to use a pen or similar to make sure it is pressed down - you can hear a faint click when it is on). Power on keeping the set button down, release when the ORANGE LED lights up - be careful 'cos the orange and red LED look very similar, the sequence is GREEN, ORANGE, RED. SO just release the set button after it changes from green. It flashes orange, then you press set again to accept the setting. It should then flash orange and bleep till you turn the TX on, when it will stop bleeping. The setup I show of the TBLE is clearer in the Konghead version of this video, I think! Hope this helps, Del - good luck!!!
@Del350K46 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply, Mark. I just did it again, with the Tx switched off...and it worked like a charm. I was able to distinguish the orange from the red and did it all as you described. When I turned the Tx on the LED settled to a slow, contented-seeming orange flash, but there´s no response from the motor. As everything happened exactly as you described right up till I squeezed the trigger, I think we can give the ESC a clean bill of health (I´ll confirm that by plugging it into something else) so I´m starting to stare at my motor with a jaundiced eye. At least, thanks to your video, I know where to get an affordable replacement!
@MarkBryanRC6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the ESC is OK! Just a thought, you have got the sensor cable plugged in? I had a sensor cable with one of the tiny wires dry-jointed on one of the end connectors, and the motor would not spin.

Sadly it´s a sensorless motor. I think the ESC´s okay - I plan to plug it into my Mini Trophy this evening, to confirm that I need a new motor.

@MarkBryanRC2 жыл бұрын
Hi Avinash. The ESC is shutting off due to overheat protection. The ESC is getting too hot. It is not designed for a 2s battery, but it could be shutting down due to excess load from the motor also. You should not use a motor with less than 23 turns. Also, running on deep grass or mud, or running with a large pinion or bigger than stock wheels (high gearing) will also overload the motor and cause ESC overheating. You could also fit a fan to the ESC to keep it cool. I hope this helps, Best regards from Mark.

Hi Neil Fastfreddie Anderson ! Thanks for the comment mate! The motor was off eBay - from a Chinese seller - only £20 - if you search for brushless motors I'm sure you will find it - not a named brand though. Since then I have used Turnigy Trackstar brushless motors from Hobbyking.com - very cheap and great quality - about £25 for the 13.5 turn and work really well with the Tamiya TBLE02s ESC. Don't believe what others say - the TBLE works fine with other motor brands - I have been using them for over 4 years with no problems at all in about 6 cars! Feel free to ask any other questions and I will try to help if I can! The wire is just from a standard 13 amp power cable, you find them on any electrical extension lead - works a treat and handles the power fine :-)

Mark Bryan RC thanks for the quick reply and advice I found and ordered the same motor you used on amazon I’ll try a 13:5 t to start with. I’ve got a lot of cars to get up and running any idea what the ratio is between brushed and brushless. I was told 16t brushless is equivalent to a 21turn brushed any advice or comments.
@MarkBryanRC6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm - difficult question, as we have to consider sensored or sensorless brushless! I'd say, as a starter, the advice is pretty good - brushless are much more efficient and use so much less power than an equivalent brushed motor but spin slower per turn (generally). So yes, a 21 turn brushed spins at about 22000rpm and you need a brushless 15 turn to spin as fast - but the efficiency of brushless makes a difference and makes the package a better prospect - longer battery life and longer motor life too! Anyway - brushless wins hands down!
@Freddie44utube6 жыл бұрын

what is the lowest turn brushed motor you can use with that esc? the manual says nothing under 25 turn. I was looking to run a 17t
@MarkBryanRC7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom - you are right, the TBLE-02 manual says the lowest you can use is a 25 turn Sport Tuned Tamiya motor. Bullshit! My friends and I have all used 21 turned motors from different manufacturers for a couple of years with no problems. The ESC is rated at 60 amps so check out the max current of the motor you are looking to fit. I think 17 might be pushing the limit - have a look at the Absima Thrust Eco 21T - it runs at 25000 revs compared to the sport tuned 19000 revs, and its about £10. I've used this with the TBLE and its just great!

Can the differentials and clutch take 3s brushless power?
@flamehawk18956 жыл бұрын
Because I want to buy a new aluminium tt01 assembled chassis from eBay and install a brushless system
@MarkBryanRC6 жыл бұрын
Hi flamehawk189 - if you run a fast motor (i.e. 13 turns or less) and a 3S LiPo, I don't think the differentials will last long as all the gears in the TT01 and TT02 are plastic. I have heard that you can make the DF02 metal differential gears fit with a little filing down, but this then becomes more tricky and more expensive - a friend of mine fitted a 4300 kv brushless motor running on 2S LiPo's and stripped the TT02 plastic diffs in a couple of hours. There is no clutch to worry about in a TT01 or TT02. I hope this helps!

You can but the Tamiya ESC cooling fan but it's a bit pricey - search on ebay and you will find plenty of ESC cooling fans for only a few quid - they plug into your receiver's 5v socket to get power. You can run without one, but it does give a little safety and performance boost to keep the ESC cool.
