More current then at a similar voltage? More watts, so to speak, more heat given off by the "improved" motor. Perhaps an attached fan might be a good idea to extend the useful life of this 'improved' motor?

Nice Demo of how it can be done, but pointless: the Brass bearing will wear out and the outer bell will start wobbling. Given the price of a real BL motor and a matching ESC to geht a higher efficiency factor than a cheap brushed using simple Control and Most probably this one (60-80% --> 90%), this approach doesnt pay, als you still need the ESC.

@@haraldhechler3557 the real advantage of brushless is, that they are being produced over a wide range of power/rpm/torque, so that you can prevent an extra transmission, whereas such a mod is limited to different windings. Many of these DIY videos claim, new BLDCs are expensive, buz on the other hand, there are countless of them available in harddisks, old floppy drives and optical drives, each of them better in some aspect than modding an old Mabuchi standard 380/480/540
