The new Kajka Backpacks are here and Hardware Designer Johan Hübinette is sharing how to pick the right size and how to fit it correctly.
Despite its fairly modest appearance, Kajka is an advanced trekking backpack in the classic Fjällräven spirit. Beloved by trekkers worldwide for its functionality and durability, Kajka was launched in 2008 and updated in 2013 with an FSC-certified wooden frame. In 2024, it is redesigned once again for better comfort, versatility, and repairability. Available in sizes S/M and M/L, now Kajka comes in capacities of 35, 55, 65, 75, 85, and 100 litres. With more options for different outdoor activities, it is even more important to ensure your Kajka fits perfectly.

Me and Ove (Kajka 85L) are really good trekkingpartners since over 8 years - this backpack is awesome :)

The product has been in the market for months. Very little info on it. I bought one(75l) to replace the previous model. I'm very impressed with it. Lots of niggles sorted that i had with the other one(65l). It's a fantastic bit of kit.

Hi, I had the old Kajka and for me the fabric inside was not good for outdoor usage. It seemed liked more for backpacking in hostels and so. So what about the inside from the new Kajka? Was it made more simple and durable?

The size differences are unclear. Your website should feature a comparison chart. It is confusing when the Kajka 75, 85 and 100 report the same model height of 187cm. Also think about that measure for a moment. That's a very tall person's height (6'2") and makes absolutely no sense. Is this maybe supposed to be height+width+depth, i.e. a rather useless measure? How do you determine your volume measurements? For instance, the Kajka 100 specs say height=90cm, width=58cm, depths=30cm. Let's assume a backpack can be modelled as an elliptic cylinder. Then its volume in cm^3=1/1000l can be derived as pi × width/2 × depth/2 × height. Your specs then yield a volume of 125 liters. That means your specs give a 25% larger volume than the Kajka's name "100l". The volumes for the other Kajkas seem even more off. Wouldn't you agree that this confuses customers and pictures of all sizes next to each other with metersticks would be more helpful? How come the Kajka 85 and 75 have the same weight? Wouldn't the smaller one be lighter??? Could you also add the weight capacity of each backpack. Thanks.

I have the Kajka 65L and really love it. I'm backpacking long miles months at a time with heavy loads (40-60lbs). I'm female, 5'3 135. My hips are 30 inches, waist 28 inches. So even the small waist belt is too big. As a thought, would it be possible to create a hip belt and lumbar pad that is both foam and air filled? Sort of like the Thermarest sleeping pad, that is foam and air filled. While im sure this would be a pricey thing, it would also be form-fitting and comfortable and allow for weight loss in smaller people 🤔

Hello, I have the old kajka modell and there is a little 2-3mm hole in the material. Do you have any suggestions how I should treat it ? Thanks

It is a great expedition backpack. I wonder how much weight could be saved if removed all the unnecessary zippers and pockets and buckles

Buy a Mountain Equipment then. Weighs under a kilo. Having used one and two kajka since, the Fjallraven destroys the Mountain Equipment tupilak for performance and features (that are very uselful). I liked the simplicity of the ME one but it was incredibly painful to carry. I don't see the point in stripping down such an amazing backpack tbh. More loss than gain.

But still that terrible zipper for the lower compartement, I swear every time when I try to open or close it. But the new design for the side pockets looks great but no comment on it?

I'm very impressed with my new one so far. Zip is not so difficult on the lower compartment, plus lots of other useful changes. It's not subtle. There are many changes. It was expensive but worth it for me.

The zippers on the new version are slightly different and everso slightly easier to use. New side pockets are fab 👍. I have been using my new pack lots in the last four days on a trip. Absolutely love it. A big improvement over the previous one. All the little tweaks add up.
