An easy method of making transfer screws to very accurately mark the PCD thread holes on a Myford indexing back-plate. Also see how critical it is to mount the indexing back-plate in the correct position so that the securing bolt holes don't clash with the indexing holes. Yes indeed. This technical transfer holes saved my work. O bought a 200 mm Champion Tools 3 jaws Chuck already, and It cames with hide holes. I've made the back plate using a gym weight like you explained. But to acquire more accurate of those set points I grindered with a drill machine against the spining Stone. Thank you a Lot.

I've known about using transfer screws for a long time but they are fairly expensive to buy. Love your idea for making your own. You come up with great ideas.

Thanks...It wasn't my idea though. I have seen other people use this or similar methods. I have seen a set online but like you say they are expensive, especially if one can make a usable set quickly.

Just a thought, you can use a drill to cut an allen key on grinder from the beginning. This way you'll get exact centered conus.

You would get get a better point chucking directly into a powered drill chuck. I use that method often for reporting center punches and scribers.

I prefer to use a green wheel to sharpen hardened steel and it leaves a much nicer finish especially where woodworking tools are concerned and I finish of edges with leather and polishing compound.

Hey Steve. would the indexing plate fit a grizzly medium size lathe?
@SteveJordan
@SteveJordan 5 жыл бұрын
Hi...No you would have to make a back of spindle indexer like I have shown on other videos.

Great video Steve! I was looking at these chucks last night on Bangood, they say in the specs that they are only good for "non ferrous materials ie plastics ect. Are these chucks ok for turning aluminum/steel/titanium? It seems to me I've seen guys on Utube with the same chuck turning all sorts of ferrous materials metals ect. Cheers, Doug

Hi Doug, Thanks....No this is what I call an erroneous Chinese to English translation and one thing the Chinese need to get sorted. The chucks are proper engineering Lathe/CNC chucks used for turning all types of machinable metals. I have seen this type of poor translation on many products and you can often see it in the instruction booklets that come with other types of Chinese products It is most probably that the translations are left up to the actual manufacturers of these products and they are using the best translation method they can find, or maybe its left up to staff that don't know the best translation to suit the actual product. Which is what I believe has happened in this chuck translation. I have tried this myself on translators and even with computer or a translation device, it isn't easy to get things right always. So it is understandable. When buying chucks, I just check the dimensions and check what they are made of. They state the body is cast iron and it has hardened steel jaws. That means its standard Lathe/CNC chuck used for holding any machinable metal.

Annoyed and thank you for sharing these good works that you perform a restoration of ten, I am now going to restore a myford ml7, what a pity that I do not master English to be able to listen and understand your videos. What are the products that you use as degreasers acids etc ... and where could you buy them? thanks for sharing a greeting from Spain

I do not use decreases really. I just clean the parts using paraffin or white spirit for parts to be repainted using the proper Myford paint one can buy on Ebay. Regards Steve

Steve I have just ordered Chineze lathe and Sanou 125mm chuck,I noticed on your video that it does not come with a back plate and they dont sell them. Are the chinee lathe back plates 1 1/8 by 12 tpi ?
@SteveJordan
@SteveJordan 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerry. The Chinese Mini Lathe chucks are held on with 4 bolts. The lathe should come with a 100mm or an 80mm chuck as standard. You can fit the 125mm chuck though with an adaptor plate which you should be able to get from Arceurotrade UK. So mine has a 100mm chuck as standard which fits directly on the spindle flange with four bolts. The 125mm chuck has to be fitted on the adaptor backplate which then fits on the spindle flange. If you need anymore help just ask... Regards Steve

Hello Steve, thank you for this video. For all of your videos. I would like to ask you a question about the Sanou K72 Chuck: In several online shops the K72 is only recommended for "non ferrous" metals and softer materials like plastic. I am interested in buying one of these, but this is an absolute no-go. It's just unbelieveable. What is your experience with steel in a K72, for example? Are there any recommendations from customers about steel/non-ferrous? Sorry for my non-perfect English and best regards from Bavaria! AM

Another way to make transfer screws id to use e.g. grub screws and turn a point on them. Depending on how hard the screws are, might have to use carbide tools on the lathe.
@SteveJordan
@SteveJordan 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Juan, By turning a point on them, It is virtually impossible to screw them down far enough or remove them after use. This is why you need the allen key socket for adjustment. Although you can use your method for other applications.
