Why did the sub frame fail the MOT? Corrosion? Looks as good as the replacement and better and mine, worried about the MOT, which is why I'm asking. Thanks!

Hi thanks for this video that enabled me to tackle changing my subframe in the garage on the floor. Could you give the torque settings for the subframe bolts that fasten it to the car and also the bolts that fasten the anti roll bar to the subframe and the bolts for the lower pendulum mount and the two bolts that fasten the steering rack to the subframe? I can't find any of this info online anywhere and it would be a great help if you posted them on here. Thanks.

@@bodgitandleggitgarage Went to a different garage because they lied about several things. They told me the couldnt replace with a secondhand one, they said it would be 4 hours labour, it was too dangerous to drive home and it was so bad that welding would cost more than replacing. Other garage said they can change for secondhand one for 2 hours labour, they said it was dangerous and could be even be welded for an hours labour £50. Whilst other garage would make me pay £468 They probably think im stupid because im a girl and many garages have tried it on. Im happier with this other garage and trust them more than other around. Garages hate me because i usually point out stuff haha 😂

On a 99 Ford mondeo, when replacing the passenger side front wishbone do you replace the bolts upside down to the way they are fitted from factory? As you might be aware the gearbox impedes the removal of the bolt and hence you need to drop the subframe to remove the bolt to remove the wishbone.

Great vid 👍 where did you get those thin openenders from, from memory the most common sizes are 15, 16 and 18 mm which aren't covered in most cheapo sets what would you say are the most common sizes many thanks
@shaunsautorepairs54104 жыл бұрын
All my thin spanners are just ground down cheapo spanners. Your not putting a lot of force on them. Only holding a bolt still so they work well

I have a question mate. I got the mmt6 gearbox for my diesel mk3 Mondeo. I switched to a 75w gear oil from Castrol, I guess before was 75w90. My gears are still hard to get into which I thought would be solved with the straight 75w. Do you have any idea if I should try perhaps 75w80/85 or something else maybe? Cheers

What some viewers do not understand is that you are a mechanic. You are working on clients cars and basically you are offering a service for which the clients pays you. If a client says look, how much is to paint the subframe and all the spaces where the subframe goes I am sure that you will do it, as long as the client pays for your time spent on this service. It is a workhorse car, not a hobby car, not your car. Time is money. Nevertheless, once again, thank you for the time spent shooting these videos. Maybe some time I will make courage to change it at my hobby car, golf 4. Nothing special, just brought almost to factory spec all myself (thank you for the risking belt video). The subframe looks great but it is fixed in some bushes I believe and the rubber seems cracked. I wanted to do it but on the manual (and I do know you hate manuals guys but you need to take into consideration that I am a desk rat) says that if the bols snappes it needs everything to be welded in special conditions bla bla bla. I have asked a good friend mechanic (but who is specialized in heavy trucks gearboxes) and he assured me that I have more then 80% chances to snap them and that those bushes affects too little the car in curves for beeeinf risk worthy. Also, I see that people are coming to your new shop and I am wishing you all the best and, of course, stay healthy! All the best and a huge thank you for your videos!

Painting a subframe whilst it's off is the sort of thing you do if you are restoring a car, it isn't generally the sort of thing people will pay for. Odd that someone thought you should just do it for free.
