I have found better not grease any part or slide in there as the dirt/dust sticks to the grease and stops the roller rolling eventually 👍🏻

Isn't lubrication of that track part of the problem (if you enable them to slide, rather than turn..) would have thought friction is what is required to enable rollers to function?
@ToTheGarage6 ай бұрын
That's a valid point @Cheeckymonkey114 I guess if the roller is even slightly sticky on its bearing then yes it would be better to grip on even a rough surface, than to lock up and slide. (causing flat spots) The issue is, that regardless of paint quality, that area will inevitably become bare untreated steel with the roller running over it. So the application of an Oil or grease as a 'mobile' coating is the only realistic way to stop it very quickly rotting. A genuinely insightful comment. Thank you

good easy to follow strip down , can you show how the sliding door stays open ? mine will not , the lower rollers are in good nick and theres a spring loaded hook , but nothing for it to engage ?
@deen-al-afriqi5 ай бұрын
Over a year later so I'm not sure if you've solved the issue. Depending on the design the little swinging hook mechanism on the roller guide is usually connected to the door with a bowden cable which forces it clockwise when the handle is in t closed position - it pulls it anti-clockwise when the handle is pulled. This hooks it to a little stalk at the back which then locks the door in an open position. If the cable is worn then the pressure is not enough to force it around the stalk and the door stays open even though the door handle is released. The bowden cable is not connected to the guide is this video because it uses, or appears to use, the retaining spring mechanism

Great video, nice and simple to follow and would have worked first time Had I watched it fully and not put the new bracket in upside down …. I re-watched it at the important bit and it’s working a treat now. Cheers!

Where did you get that metal door plate?
@germancarfan360 Жыл бұрын
Mine was quite a bit different to this, I had a plastic cover initially sitting over the roller lower bracket ( piece being replaced ) then once removed I had a plastic piece which housed the twisted fibre metal pull mechanism to activate the latch / spring. Plus another bolt on the piece you have yo remove to enable you to remove the runner. Was all a bit of a faff by comparison :)

Interesting. Was it a Caravelle model with electric doors? or some other high-end variant?
@impropagandadept Жыл бұрын
I think mine is like yours. A plastic cover over the roller and it clips into the end of the run so you have to open van Doorn to close. It's a T5 kombi 55 plate and I am not very good at these sort of things! Do I need a different roller?
