My starter cord recently broke off. I watched your video last night, bought a generic cord this morning. 15 minutes later, my lawnmower started with one pull. Thank you so much for your help. My husband usually takes care of all this, but is ill, so, with your help, I was able to do it myself. $5.99 for the cord, fixing it myself.....priceless.

wow another woman forced to do this type of stuff because her husband is ill. Kudeos - girl power! i'm getting ready to give it a shot. thanks for the encouragement.

...thanks... poking the cord through the second inner hole wasn't easy ;-) 'how to' videos on KZbin have saved me bunches of time and money.

Thank you so much for this video! My son is 22 and is usually in charge of mowing the lawn and the cords snapped! Didn’t know what to do and he doesn’t have an involved so this was phenomenal!!!❤

Excellent video, literally had cord snap on me today and watched this. Had it done in 15mins. Thank you

I have a similar mower and these instructions were spot on. Surprisingly simple. The only challenge I had was threading the cord through the hole. I ended up using a paperclip, poking it through the back side of the wheel, taping the cord to it, and pulling it through that way. Everything else was really easy.
@thetoolsman496 жыл бұрын
I agree. Threading it is the hard part. A paper clip is a great idea.

Thanks. Seems easy enough. But as we all know sometimes little fixes become bigger problems. Thanks again

Thank you for this video. I have the same mower, and the recoil starter chord broke this morning. This video was very helpful. I appreciate it!!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. So i found a Toro, different model but the pull string would not recoil back into the shroud once pulled. I followed your steps and just pulled of the housing, cut the knotted end. Spun the coiler counter clockwise until tight. Fed the cord back through and tied a knot at the end.

Hey, thanks a ton for this. I have to share a hack. I was at the point where you said it was hard to thread the rope and I was struggling. I thought, what would a woman do here or anyone who sews? Use a needle, not even very big, push it a bit in the top. It was literally 3 seconds to thread it with the needle.
@aerosite17 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the video! It took me longer to thread the rope through but it's fixed and didn't cost anything. Now I can get back to working on my time machine.

My man, thanks dude. 1 trip to lowes for a 1/4” socket driver and I was able to fix mine. Same deal, the pull chord snapped at the old knot. Thanks for the help!

Was driving around my neighborhood, and I passed a street that had this machine with a note on it that said take me. I stop and loaded it up into my brothers truck and said a loud thank you. I then got it home and realized it had no pull string to start it up. Looks almost new like they used it and the string broke and they just threw it out. Replacement pull start is $25 going to fix it and sale it for $200 or $150 minimum, or start my own lawn cutting business grow and add gutter cleaning, pressure washing, windows washer, and snow removal. Also I have my own window secret formula that repells water and fingerprint from glass. I would offer that to businessess and home owners.

I had a Lawnboy that looks identical. The cord cartridge is very difficult on these bad boys as the gap between the outer casing and the cord reel is too thin for the cord to comfortably fit though so the typical method of adding an extra wind around the cartridge is not possible. I did exactly what you did (cut the old one off, add a single extra wind and then re-attach it). Worked perfectly! Thanks, good video dude!

Very well explained … like others .. I had "fun" threading the cord … but did a paper clip helper thingy … then read the comments about someone else doing that too … after I was done .. duh … I should have read the comments first !!! Can't figure out the 10 thumbs down though … probably from fat guys who can't work without a shirt!

The only thing - make sure you spin it 7 times before threading the cord through. We only did it twice and had to re-do it all over again because of slack. We had to look elsewhere to see how many times to spin it to coil the rope. But thank you - the repair company was backed up 5 weeks with repairs and we got this done in one afternoon!
@thetoolsman497 жыл бұрын
Yeah I guess I didn't count. I just spun it till I couldn't spin it anymore and then had to back up to get the holes to line up. It is the busy time for lawn mower repair. LOL

My problem is the screws that go in the side of the pull cord (not the ones to keep the cover on) have came loose and I just need those four screws...any way you can point me in the right direction to get these or source these? TIA

Thanks. I suggest a new pull rope for the repair. Available at any hardware store. And it tastes better.

ditch the drum track and use pliers to hold a rope when a knot ids tied.... one dental crown from a chipped tooth will convince you.
@MPNFoodVideos3 жыл бұрын
Very helpful but it does not explain threading the pull cord back in, which I found difficult because the cord is soft and just fits in the hole. I had to make the end harder by applying a little glue and letting it cure and solidify. It worked.

Unfortunately on my inherited old Toro the nuts holding the plastic were very rusted as it'd been left out in the elements for who knows how long, my 1/4 socket just rounded 2 of them completely..had to break the plastic around them to free it and get to the cord!
@edito45934 жыл бұрын
Problem. No resistance when i pull the cord on my Toro . The blade will turn but it feels like no compression. Blade just spins freely. Any suggestions?
@thetoolsman494 жыл бұрын
Check the spark plug to see if is in. That's the first thing I would do. 2nd. Check to see if air comes out of the exhaust. They are easy to pull though
