He basically did describe it anyway. Just hold it in place with a screwdriver, put the cord in and tie and then when you remove the screwdriver it'd pull in the cord winding it in.

Great tip/hack there buddy. Subscribed :) Question: The wife was running the mower (older B&S Classic 35). Tank and carb fell off. Bolts vibrated loose. I put it back together again, but it won't run. At best it fires a bit out of the air intake. I can't figure out what the hell is wrong. Any ideas? If there's supposed to be a rubber O-ring on the carb sealing the carb and intake stud, then she lost it.

Thank you, Steve! The pull cord on my snow blower has broken twice at the knot and I used the screwdriver method to hold it in place. The problem with doing it that way is the tension on the cord is always a little looser than I'd like. Your method restores the cord tension the way it came from the factory.

I just come in to take a look at anything you're up to.... Kinda like a neighbour just dropping into a mate's shed to catch up and spin a story or two or just look at gear. My neighbour went away gold prospecting for three weeks and he gave me his mulcher Briggs Stratton and he pulled it a few times and it barely started for him.... And so next day I gave it a few pulls and it gave a couple of coughs before stopping and next pull broke the start cord.... Love your videos... Neat trick to pull the cord through an extra foot and then knot it.

I've NEVER REPAIR a Lawnmower until today. Yes, the thought of taking it to the repair shop was on my mind. THANK YOU!!! Yes, you've saved me a minimum of $100. 1). I overfilled the oil 2). jammed... mower would not start 3). After draining the oil and taking the plug out. 4). I broke the Pull Rope 5). ***I REALLY was going to take it to the repair guy... Thanks for the vids Steve. I watched this even though I have been fixing starter ropes since I was a teenager (I'm 61 now). Sometimes I run into pulleys that have such a tight hole and small space for the knot you can't do it like you showed. I use an alternate method where you assemble your rope then align the notch in the pulley so you can get the rope in it then spin the rope and pulley around to tension the spring. This way also allows you to de-tension the spring if it is wound too tight. BTW maybe you could show the proper knot to use for those who are new to fixing things themselves. Now I have to do just this to my push mower. Broke the rope first time trying to start after the winter break. Keep making your videos. CHEERS!

Cheers Steve! Last weekend the mower cord snapped so I got a new one. I had a fundamental idea of how it's assembled but no experience replacing the cord, which I managed to do and was quite proud of myself when it fired up first pull... Except the cord didn't retract. Pulled it apart and figured the spring needed tension before tying and winding the cord, but couldn't work out how. This video solved it. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Thanks so much for this, we had a power outage here in NH the other day and upon trying to start the generator the rope broke. It was only the first nine inches that broke off so in that "emergency situation" I was able to use what was left to make it function thanks to your video. Of course after getting it up and running the power company got the electricity back up and running. But I'm forever grateful for the valuable knowledge on how to do that simple repair for the rest of my life. Thanks again!

Thanks for this great video. I replaced the stump grinders rope and was able to tear up about 10 stumps of various sizes once the rope was fixed. She was nice and tight, started on the first pull every time! Keep up the great work my friend.

Steve I always fix my own tools been doing tree work for 30 years and I always work on my own tools unless I get to a point where I just can't figure it out. I've wound them ropes up a lot of different ways pretty much depends on the situation at the time. hold them with Vise grip so they don't go back in using the screwdriver method so it doesn't unwind oh yeah but I have never seen it done like that I'm going to have to try that next time, unbelievable man, hats off. Almost Every time I see one of your channels I learn something new. But what I like about your show is even if I do know what you're doing and I have done it the same way . You still have an unbiased way of explaining the scenario for the people who really don't have a clue. You're very thorough an I enjoy watching how you teach people. You explain it so well even a caveman can do it.
