You sir are a legend 🙌 just saved a single mum $500 in an emergency plumber. When I just had a huge vet bill...

Thanks for the video. Very much appreciate it. Just two quick suggestions in a friendly spirit. 1. People want to see your hands and what they are doing. 2. The video needs to be short, crisp, and to the point. 3. Some description of the tools and materials is always very helpful. Thanks again.

love knead-it, always throught of trying this, glad someone has. brass tap seats seem a crazy idea, should all be stainless.

Geez, I had exactly the same problem with a cracked seat on a shower hot water tap. But just get the right tools and you'll have them any time you need them. 1) Good tap seat grinding mill (only about $15). Using improvised bibs and bobs can eventually put an angle on the seat. 2) Re-seating kit that actually replaces the seat with a stainless steel one. An that does cost $45 - but you get 2 seats in the kit, so you'll be able to do the next one "free". *I gave up on watching this video watching someone going to so much trouble to avoid doing it right.* Getting a plumber to do this is probably $250 to reseat the housing - and sure that is too much for a pensioner like me - but you can do it like a pro for $60 and have a spare insert and a decent tap mill into the bargain. (Even though I replaced the whole seat, you still need the mill to grind a clean level surface for it to screw down on after you use the kit to cut a few turns of thread down the middle).

My previous tenants were overtightening the tap and cracked the valve seat. I put a hydroseal kit in which worked at first but started dripping as few hours later. So now what? Obviously the crack is too deep. Unless there is a reliable filler that actually works it's going to be a plumber job with a section hallway wall removed for access to replace the breach. Then repair and re-paint the wall. I think ceramic quarter turn taps are the go!

Get a stainless steel replacement seat kit (Hydroseal product about $50 that has 2 replacements in the pack). I recommend using thread sealant on the new seat when you thread it into the housing. I'm just a DIY guy but I had no trouble following the instructions. With the new seat in place there won't be room for bulky anti-hammer tap washers - so just get a premium quality ordinary style tap washer to finish the job off.

You sir are a legend. I been wondering what material I can use to fix this issue for so long. Had jerry rigged a fix but this is going to ne a much better solution. 6 taps are getting a seeing to tomorrow. I appreciate it more than you know. One quick question if I may. Have you ever had this fail in time or does it just keep working?

I tried this but couldn't get seat to stay dry enough for anything to adhere even with water off of course. Just wouldn't stay dry in there.

I feel like this is a good method however I'm not sure the water would be safe to drink afterwards.
