Thank you for the instructional video. I just bought one because it was on clearance at Lowe’s and really couldn’t find a good video on the best way to use it. So again thank you!

Glad you got something out if it. Apparently it’s a bit old school these days. But so am I 🤠 They tell me plumbers use a battery powered gadget and they call that progress. :)

I was searching for info on a J.A. Sexauer "Make the tight line stay" tool I picked up to resell on ebay and this information has me keeping the entire kit now. I have been replacing my shower washer every couple of months without knowing this info, now I just happen to have a great tool to take care of the problem next time the washer fails! Glad I found your video and learned this.

Hi There, Showers are the biggest problem as the tap seat is often set into the wall and a disaster to replace. Once you reseat it successfully it should last for years and years and only replace the washer when it actually wears out. I’m really glad his video helped. Flick me a subscribe and a thumbs up if you want to help the channel Thanks! David

I love proper tradesmen and tricks of trade. Also, the “old fashioned” approach of fixing things and not just replacing is quickly becoming “new fashion” :) makes me laugh, all these people thinking they are changed the world by “convincing us” fixing things is good. It’s been done for centuries.

Vaso on the cutting head was a massive help to stop it biting down, my arms buggered so made a big difference. was thinking for attaching the drill to the tool, if my 13mm flat grinding stone from my dremmil would have gotten down i would have used that 🤣 Thanks Cobber 💯 great tips 👍

The piece of rag makes all the difference getting it smooth. Once you get chatter on the seat it’s hard to get it out again. You could even put a piece of wet or dry sand paper down there. A dermal could easily take to much or get the seat out of square. Glad you got something out of this video and thanks for letting me know.

Some one else commented on battery powered tool now being available to do this job. Personally I think it would be over kill as the amount you need to remove is tiny and it’s only brass :)

Sorry, I forgot to ask. Do think I could somehow use a reseating tool to put a flat edge on the end of a brass 3/4 bsp running nipple? I want to use a couple of long nipple through a shower wall to attach a bar shower to. The bar shower has a rubber washer inside the 3/4 female bsp nut so I guess the sharp edge of the nipple thread wouldn’t be ideal. I’ve got a reseating tool in my garage, I saw it the other day… problem is last time I used it was 20 odd years ago for a small 1/2 basin tap, I didn’t see any string on it so guess I’ve lost the 3/4 part:) :)
@DavoShed2 жыл бұрын
Ha ha re the no string problem. :) I’m not a plumber so I’m not exactly sure what you are trying to do with the 3/4 nipple. The reseating tool will put a flat edge on anything if you can hold them in the right position solid enough. Perhaps you could use some other fittings to simulate a tap and hold the edge you want to clean up in reach of the tool. In a past life I was a Fitter and Machinist and I still have a lathe and milling machine. If you know someone with either of those machines I’m sure they would be able to chuck it up and face it off for you. Good Luck!

Where did you learn that rag trick
@DavoShed2 жыл бұрын
I learnt that one as an apprentice Fitter Machinist. The tool that is used to put a chamfer on the edge of a hole does the same thing leaving “chatter marks” and mucks up the surface finish. The rag stops it. It’s like magic really :) You thought I was going to say KZbin :)

This is as old school as it gets. Got to bunnings and get a re seater that fits in your cordless drill. Easier and way more efficient.
@DavoShed2 жыл бұрын
What can I say. I must be old :) I’ve used that one half a dozen times in my life and I’ve never had to replace the batteries. Think of the work out I’m getting as well :)
@owenprince482310 ай бұрын
If you get chatter marks, it is because you are going to fast. use less speed and more pressure. The finish with 600 grit wet sand paper. That will give you the best surface.
@DavoShed10 ай бұрын
The wet or dry sand paper is a good idea. Not sure how I could turn it any slower. I’ll give it a go next time i have it out which is not very often 🤠

@@DavoShed I just fixed a tub tap that is over 70 years old and never been worked on. The seat does not have thread and is fixed solid to the tap handle so can not be replaced. I had to modify the seat tool to fit into the tap handle.to fix the seat. I then had to change the rubber washer design to take the washers in the store as you can no longer get rubber washers for that tap. fixed for under 10 dollars saved 500 dollars by not replacing it'.
@DavoShed10 ай бұрын
@owenprince4823 Well done. Sounds complicated. I’m glad you figured out a solution. 70 is not that old and I’m sure the design in my video goes back at least that far. From your description it sounds like the design is much older. Where in the world are you?
@owenprince482310 ай бұрын
@@DavoShed This tap is so old there are not threads on it. It used snap rings to hold it together. The seat, washer and handle are all one piece. The person who took it apart bent up the snap rings so they did not hold the seat and washer together and when they turned the water on it shot the seat, washer and handle out of the wall. They gave up and called me to help. I have never seen a tap like this before so i had to redesign it to take the washers from the hardware store. You would not know the town, it is a one horse one stoplight little town in the mountains of Canada.
@DavoShed10 ай бұрын
@owenprince4823 Sounds like you did very well to fix it. I have never herd of anything like that either. I know Canada 🤠 it’s a nice place from all accounts. My Neighbour is from there, been here probably 50 years and still has the accent!
