In this video, we have a huge dip in the sub floor. With this dip, it makes it difficult to install nail down hardwood . In order to get this floor hardwood ready we removed the old ply wood and fur stripped the joist to bring the dip back up. For questions, leave them in the comments. And as always, stay safe and take care. Peace

Two years later and the sickness is still around. Thank you for this video.. i seem to have the same issue, but i have carpet on the second floor... After watching your video though, i am feeling pretty confident about starting to take the carpet out and inspecting the subfloor.

Our subfloor has lumps and bumps around the bathroom vanity from a flood. Then in the corner near the tub there is damage from shower water getting on it over the years. I don't know if it will need a new sub floor or just sand down the bumps. How is that determined? Also, I used self stick vinyl tiles years ago when we built the house and so it is very sticky on the particle board sub floor. How do you deal with the sticky? I just found your channel and you seem to know what you are doing so I thought I would ask. Thanks for the video.

I would probably just replace it. With water damage you have to worry Bout mold and the actual moisture in the subfloor( if it's still gets wet) can ruin the new floors. Especially if it is Ll swollen. As for as the sticking subfloor, here is a quick video I made that might help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2jMeICnqt-FiqM. Thanks for the question

We had to replace several pieces of the sub floor when we put our laminate flooring down discovered quite a few dips and lumps how do we fix the sub floor ?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR Жыл бұрын
Did you already install the laminate? Cause if so, it's too late to fix subfloor. But if not, then as long as the floor system is in good shape, you can use floor leveler to fill in dips. Also, a planer or belt sanded will help out with all the humps. A combination of both should help pretty good.

How did you put the scabs in after having the shims wedged in place?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 жыл бұрын
Once I put the shims in it raised the plywood. Then I broke the shims off flush with the joist I'm attaching the scab to. I will bring the scab up to the newly raised plY wood. If it tough to break the shims you can score them with a razor knife or oscillating tool. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question

As long as the floor is solid. Sand the high spot and patch the low with some ardex. Back in business in less than an hour.
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely wouldn't advise doing that. If it's not primed and mixed right it can cause even more problems in the future. The moisture gets soaked up by the wood and when driving nails into it (if you can get nails through it) it can tend to bust and crack as it would if you hit it with a hammer. I've used floor leveler, but only for floating floors. THANKS FOR THE COMMENT

@@YOUFLOOR Your trick worked I hope. But that's too much work for something that could've been solved with some leveling compound; for wood. Then, just skip over that area when nailing down and use liquid nails instead. You can miss a couple boards as long as you got other ones holding it in place and are nailed to make it leveled. Thats just a faster and cheaper trick. Just want to help.

What are those strips of wood you used on top of the joists at the low spots before putting plywood?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 2 жыл бұрын
@Obsxcurity those are called fur strips and I cut them myself. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@chrisbayron8249
@chrisbayron8249 3 жыл бұрын
Where did you find those strips you put on the joist, what are they, and how thick?
@YOUFLOOR
@YOUFLOOR 3 жыл бұрын
Those are what I call first strips. When I laid my level across the joints you can see that the dip goes from nothing against the walls to a half inch low in the middle. So I took a 2×6 and cut it the length of the joints. Then temporarly screwed it beside the curved joist. Make sure it is flush on both ends on the top. This will make it stick up higher than the original in the middle since the original dips down and my 2x6 is straight. Then I took a pencil and marked the new 2x6 all the way down with my pencil riding on top of the original. I cut that line with a circular saw. Now you have the exact first strip for that specific area. Thicker in the middle and tapered on the ends. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the question
@chrisbayron8249
@chrisbayron8249 3 жыл бұрын
@@YOUFLOOR awesome thanks for the reply. I think so. So the strip is what you cut off of the new 2x6. Also great video and keep up the hard work. I see too many people cutting corners. If there is a corner to cut, they’ll do it. Sometimes taking the hard path is the best path in the long run.
