Try assembling the power chamber BEFORE you screw it back on the nozzle. You can set the pre-load the first time with foolin' around with it.

Help! I have new diaphragm and gasket and spring but I get no sound, at all. How close should the end of the horn tube be to the diaphragm? Touching it? Should there be a gap between the diaphragm and the end of the horn? Trying to troubleshoot why I’m getting no sound at all.

grover is just a brand of horns. grover makes air horns for trucks, firetrucks and marine horns. there are other makers such as hadley, and nathan airchime. the stutter tone horn that grover makes is used on just about every emergency vehicle that has air horns. as far as the tone, the longer the horn its self, the lower the note, the shorter the horn, the higher pitched the horn will be

pretty sure i got the same one as you. i got it from a fire truck in a automotive plant i used to work at. its brand new with LA firedepartment grover ect ect on the back... its not sounding as good as i was hoping but i know its my setup and not the horn... i got a 5 gallon air tank no compressor. tanks filled to 125psi. i got a standard air line aair "blower" handle and i took the tip off and put a fitting that would allow me to run 1/2 hard air line to the horn. so from the trigger on i got 1/2 line ...about 6 feet. horn is under my hood. handle "air blower" is in my cab. then the standard air tool line from handle to the tank in the back of my truck . thats another 8 feet of line. it really only needs to shoot air from the handle through 6 feet of 1/2 air line. but im not getting that quick response and that belligerent sound.

These Grover 1510 don't use nearly as much air as my Nathan k5la (genuine locomotive horn) which needs at least 1/2 airlines. grover 1510 can operate normally with a standard blow gun as long it's over 100psig. Maybe a bit quiet because of the blowgun. 1/4 inch hose would be good. If it is still not working the way it should, open the back cap and take a took at the diaphragm and the spring.

+milldabeast519a solenoid or a ball valve would work great, to get the best performance, avoid using quick connect especially if you have a pair of grovers

+Nick Silcox yesterday i was checking the back of the horn... everything seemed loose. probably was my issue. i tigheten it all but dont got pressure right now. im using big expensive brass fittings... thought about the quick conntects like normal transport truck style. as its hooked up right now the weakest link or smallest part of the line is the inside diameter of the fitting that goes into the horn. so i have got the biggest passage of air to the horn thats possible.solenoid i can hook right into horn then run switch into cab. so the air would only gotta move a centimeter to hit the horn... a ball valve in manual and i would have to run it in the cab... wouldnt a ball valve be the same as what i got. just harder to open. i got a blower attachment as the "button" on the line.

I'm curious. How can you tell the number of the horn such as 5010 or 5012? Is there a place on the horn where you can find that? I have a horn but can't find the number on it but it does say grover.

khris camacho unfortunately not, I don’t any markings that specify the model. Kinda have to go by sound and length to determine the model. (Unless there are marking that I don’t know about)

hey robert if you are looking for that classic firetruck stuttertone horn, the Grover 1510 is the way to go since it is the horn they use. they average a cost of 200 for a pair (100 for one) however i got my pair for as cheap as 80 bucks on ebay

unfortunately i sold the big rig horns to a friend of mine. however they are always on ebay for a pair going for less than a hundred bucks, so they are pretty cheap. i would probably stick with grover since they are reliable and easy to repair.

Would the Grover Air Horn 1510 work with a direct drive compressor such a a Fiamm or Wolo? I am very limited on space and don't have much room for an airtank.

Hey after you loosened the thoat to make the diaphram flush how may threads were exposed then, you started out with one thread how many after?

in my case, only 1 and a few tweak turns for final adjustment. it can vary and depending on how loud you like your horn to be. the more threads exposed, the quieter the horn will be, less threads, it will louder, may need more pressure and risk damaging the diaphragm.

you prob cant, the bore (little hole just after the nozzle inside the horn) that changes the tone of the horn (larger the hole, the higher pitched the horn) as well as the length of the horn will change the tone (25inches) normal/mac horns have a large bore and blow around 220-230 hz(rough guess) while stutter tone horns blows a 247hz. if you do switch the sound unit and if it does fit good, only think that would happen is it will make the horn louder. my best bet is to buy an emergency horn from ebay and get them for a fairly cheap price ($50-100+) hope this helps!

There is a venturi in the horn shaft that makes the stutter tone sound. I found a overseas make of the stuttertone emergency horn for 1/3 the price of the domestic grover horn

Chuck B there is no venturi in these horns. the stutter tone comes from the frequency its producing (248hz) if you do get that horn at a third of the price, it might produce the same freq. it wont be as loud as a true Grover 1510-1512

Nick Silcox if you look into the throat of the "stuttertone horn" it has a much narrower throat (1/2" passage) than the regular truck tone horn. This causes the horn to "stutter" , oh and btw , 1/3 the price emergency horns are every bit as loud as the Grovers . FYI Thanks Jason From Air Horns of Texas

milldabeast519 truck horns dont consume a lot of air, anything above 3 gallons is good for truck horns (not real train horns) 120pounds is good, do not go above 150 or the diaphragm will get damaged

Cristian Sáenz Elliot the diaphragm spring on the standard truck horn wasn’t as strong as the emergency stutter tone and that had a much stronger spring to it. the length of the bell (length of the horn itself) determines the frequency of any air horn. (Stuttertone is 24inches long, 247hz) The longer the horn, the lower the frequency becomes. The shorter, the higher the frequency

i recommend grover horns in pairs, normally for around $100-150, and once in a while you can get a pair for much cheaper(i bought a pair for as low as $60) if you have patience and know watcha looking for. but a single could range from $50-100 (pending on condition) emergency horn, grover horn, firetruck horn, are a few example searches for ebay
